At DrupalCon 08, I demo'd my module multisite_manager. This is only peripherally related to Drupal in Education, and for that I apologize. However, there was some interest at the education BOF, so I figured I'd post here on updates (and unless encouraged further, I won't mention it here again).
The peripheral connection for multisite_manager to education is that in environments where you want to afford groups their own sandbox/drupal site (departments, professors), to commit all the havoc with modules, etc. that they're capable of, this facilitates creating drupal sub-sites from within a main drupal sites (their own db, and everything). In our particular environment, we have some profiles which they can select to get them started easily: wiki, blog, mentor/mentee communities, etc.
As for the updates
* There's now a 5.x 1.0 release. We've been using it successfully in production for over a year, but my conservative versioning before that meant that it was a 0.9x release.
* There is now a 6.x beta, which I would be very grateful if any here that are starting to work with Drupal 6.x tried out and submitted feedback.
For those at DrupalCon08, it was great to meet you!

This is a great post for this group
Hello, Schuyler,
As we discussed at the BoF's at DrupalCon, this module is a great tool in designing, testing, and rolling out sites, and a great resource.
Thanks for posting this update here, and please continue to post these updates in the future.
You have written a module that is incredibly useful, both inside and outside education.
Great to meet you at DrupalCon!
Cheers,
Bill

have sandbox will test both versions of multisite manager
Timing is great for me. I have a handful of new drupal users that I'm giving new sites on a sandbox server they just setup for me. I'll be doing a Drupal 6.1 and Drupal 5.7 site with clean urls for each of the users on Mac OS Server 10.5.
Since I'm new to multisite manager, you'll get both bug testing and likely some documenation or documentation feedback from a new user point of view.
Thanks again. I'll let you know when I've tested it.

Your module...
It was interesting from a number of respects.... I can envision a time when "users" could set up their own sites, but my client base tends to be folks who are terrified of technology. But I am very interested.
