Research and academia

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.
This group should probably have more organizers. See documentation on this recommendation.

This group is a meeting, discussion and collaboration space for all interested in using Drupal in the academia and research environments. Drupal is an excellent platform for running sites of departments, associations, centers, research projects, conferences, ejournals, or even entire universities.

This group was started following discussions around the excellent Biblio module. However, all topics related to using Drupal in an academic/research environment are welcome, as well as very specific issues related to Biblio development. Relevant discussions may occur in the Drupal in Education, Conference Organizing Distribution, Language Learning Communities or Curriculum and Training groups.

Building install profiles for DrupalEd

From the longer post on the wiki page:

The DrupalEd project is now live on Drupal.org -- we are now ready to use the issue queue to centralize discussion on the different install profiles. In starting to discuss the profiles, I suggest we use the following format, as we will need to answer these questions as we build the various profiles.

Cooks research group

I just launched a new site for my research group using Drupal. I just use use custom node types with the necessary fields for journal entries. I also have set up a editorial system for our research descriptions so that the professor can give things the okay before they post (using workflow module). I'm pretty pleased with the result so far.

How to use and set the E-publish module for it's navigation?

Hi, everyone. I am constructing a journal website.
My plan is build this site mainly by e-publish module, since my site is base on Drupal 5.0 but E-journals module have yet support it.

E-publish is not easy at setting.
Especially the navigation bar on the bottom of every articles, sometimes it display, sometime doesn't.
My intuition about this problem is that, it maybe the content types I choose to be "top story".
It seems only the "story" type will make the navigation bar display.
I don't know if this is correct.

Anyone who has this experience please give me some hints, thanks.

Healing Thresholds

http://autism.healingthresholds.com is a site we built for an organization that aims to bring scholarly writing and research to people affected by autism. Abstracts are presented at an 8th grade reading level. A glossary of terms helps members understand the jargon. A community-driven wiki provides an alternative to the formal research.

Modules we are using include biblio, glossary, cck and views.

How to separate long node into pages?

Hi, everyone:

(My English is not very well, it may has some mistakes in my grammar.)

I am constructing a online journal website. We hope that we could put all full text of articles on the internet.

But it seems the length of every articles are too long to be read. I am looking for some modules to solve this problem. Does anyone know how to separate single long node into pages? Please give me some suggestions.

Thanks a lot!

First pass at a site for DrupalEd

Check it out here: http://drupaled.alphabetademo.org

The site can function as a blogging platform, a podcasting platform, a wiki, an informal learning space, a course management space, and/or as a replacement for an organizational intranet. Within the site, users can create working groups or communities of practice. The site also supports social bookmarking. The homepage of the site gives a more complete overview of the functionality.

Non-Drupal inspirations for research and learning

I've just come across the fantastic software for social bookmarking for academics Connotea (see http://www.connotea.org) and started thinking about the many great projects out there which we could either learn from or integrate into Drupal. Of course, there are some obvious candidates such as Moodle, Elgg, Gallery2 that we all know about. But what about services such as Shelfari or LibraryThing? So I thought I'd start a thread where we could talk about what others are doing and how we can benefit from their hard work.

How to use the group?

Hello all,

I understand this is the place where we can discuss drupal and academia issues, which modules to use for different tasks etc... but I don't know if this is the place where we should ask questions on how to use the modules, or how to solve problems with the modules? I was about to post a question here on the biblio.module but then though the forums where the right place for such questions: http://drupal.org/node/125455

I am using biblio.module on a test site here:

Biblio documentation wiki

The Bibliography Module needs better documentation and Wikis seem to be ideal for working on manuals. Anything that gets created here can then be moved over to the http://drupal.org/node/111016. I copied what is there now here:

Overview

The Bibliography Module allows you to create and maintain bibliographic lists of publications. The full (HTML) text of the publication can be included if so desired. Other files such as PDF or Word documents can be attached using the upload module.

Research and academia showcase

Hello everyone, I thought it would be best to start with an overview of all the different academic and research sites where Drupal is either being used or is about to be used. Please, indicate in your post which modules you found essential to provide functionality specific to the academic/research needs of your site.

Note: If you have more than one site, please, add it into separate comments.
