create organic groups programmatically for a school site

Hi Dojo experts:

Relatively new to drupal ( about 2 months plus ) but rapidly coming upto speed with all aspects.

I am attempting to create a site with organic groups that could be created by some or all users -

The site is targeted towards a middle school/high school audience and only certain users ( e.g. teachers ) should be able to create those groups ( these are really class groups ).

Project: Transforming Book Module Into Robust Outliner for Drupal 6.0

With the interest expressed by Dojo members and the wider Drupal community in this project, we're moving forward. This wiki page is open to anyone to update as the project progresses. Feel free to leave comments as well.

Project Outline
One of the things mentioned by Dries in his "State of the Drupal" talk at OSCMS (watch the video here) was how nice it would be if book.module would turn into a more generic outline functionality, rather than being semi-attached to a specific node type. We're going to take on this task.

Project Deadline
The Drupal 6.0 code-freeze is on June 1st, meaning we need to have all features done by then, as only bugfixes are allowed beyond that point.

Issue Queue
We will be organizing by using Drupal.org's issue queue. Here is a direct link for the book component.

NodeAPI Sunday!

Well, this is "the day after the night before" of Drupal's 6th birthday marking the release of Drupal 5.0 stable release, so... in honor of this the first thing to do is to update your sandbox development lesson playground sites to Drupal 5.0! (Just follow the all-new instructions in UPGRADE.txt).

Where we were at the end of Lesson #1

Lesson #3 Screencast -- NodeAPI

Thanks to Matt Koglin of Antinomia for helping get a torrent file of my 3rd lesson together. It was a good lesson with a number of practical examples and some fun "let's watch Josh remember how to do this" moments.

Download the HD torrent now, and help seed if you can.

It's about 275MB, but the audio is clean as I did the screencap myself. I'm going to see if we can start getting our lessons hosted on the Drupal.org infrastructure, but for now this can be a great excuse for anyone who's still holding out to get torrent-savvy!

There's also a ~90mb .mov file created by mpare. Thanks!

Lesson #3 Screencast -- NodeAPI [Updated]

Well the file is about 227MB, huge I know. I am working on a way to distribute these, will try a torrent when I get off work. Don't worry about being kind to my server the account ends in a few days, January 24th I think. The picture quality coming off VNC as well as the audio coming of Skype were so much better this time around. Once again this is a QuickTime *.Mov file, I'm sorry for any problems this may be causing some of you. Well after all of that if you still want the video you can click the link to download Lesson #3 From January 14, 2007!

I also now have just an audio file of the lesson if anyone wants this for notes and such.
