Should Drupal.org participate in the Internet freedom movement at TheDayWeFightBack.org?
To participate, we would add a banner to the homepage on 11 February. Sample (not final) banner can be seen on the organizing site: https://thedaywefightback.org/.
The Drupal Association, which is responsible for Drupal.org is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in the United States. We do have restrictions on political lobbying as a 501(c)3 but this kind of activity is perfectly legal for us to undertake.
As a bit of history, Angie Byron (webchick) shared some previous history for Drupal.org and advocacy issues:

Many folks on this list have already heard the news that the White House released their first set of Drupal code on GitHub:
https://github.com/WhiteHouse/petition
And it is for the petition/advocacy tool that they built here:

This has gotten a good deal of coverage on Reddit & other sites who are excited about government participation in open source.
Read more"email your leaders" and petition modules. Functionality for contacting your MP / congress member, signing e-petitions
I'm looking for modules that do the following 1) "email your leaders" function. Allowing users to send a standard or customised email to their political representatives. The correct political representative is identified using a zip code / post code search. New email campaigns can be set up fairly easily. 2) a basic petition signing module. Users simply enter a name and email and are then recorded as having signed the petition.
Can someone point me to a module or combination of modules that do the above. Thanks in advance for your help. Alex
Read moreUrgent help needed, lots of small tasks, non-profit developing Haiti Relief Oversight Database in Drupal, shooting for Thursday release, any ideas where to get help?
Application being developed by www.disasteraccountability.org. Decision was made last minute to go with Drupal. 10 developers worked through the weekend to get all content types, design comps, main site css and navigation done. There are tons of small things that could be knocked out by Drupal developers very quickly. Having lots of trouble finding Drupal folks who can commit even an hour or two between now and Thursday. This project has real promise to improve effectiveness of relief efforts in Haiti and future disasters.

The new drupal based website for the Dublin Cycling Campaign has just been launched.
http://www.dublincycling.ie/
All feedback is very welcome and if you happen to be interested, the next open meeting is 7pm, Monday 14th September, 2009 in the Smock Alley Café, Temple Bar, Dublin 2. They'll also be sharing a stand with a number of cycling groups at the Electric Picnic in the Global Green area if anyone is passing.
Huge thanks to Stella who answered a considerable number of questions when development was beginning and to the drupal community at large.

Hi folks,
I began working on a side project a month or so ago to create a system with Drupal that will allow organizers to collaboratively manage volunteers, events and field operations. I have been surprised by the demand for a system like this and I would like to take this past idea stage and formalize a fork of Drupal for campaigns/organizations.
The general functionality I am looking to build in (some of which is completed) is:
1) Calendar
2) Management of campaign requests
2) Task management
3) Volunteer database
Adopting Drupal as a learning tool within K12
I came across this thread recently, titled "Moodle as 'the killer app'" -- the author of the original post is Wes Fryer, a very respected edtech blogger.
Also, at the risk of stating the obvious, I don't see Drupal and Moodle as competing within education -- there are things Drupal does well, there are things Moodle does well, and when faced with a choice you use the best tool for the job.
