News site relaunched with Drupal

Hi everyone

I have relaunched the Newswatch (http://www.newswatch.in) site, and of course it has been remade with Drupal. I am calling this a Beta version primarily because the site isn't populated much.

Just briefly:
i) Two major section pages: NewsBlog and Features. Other section pages will be developed as and when there is sufficient content to play around with.
ii) The site makes extensive use of Contemplate, CCK, Views, NodeQueue and Node Images: best example for a variety of such combinations would be the homepage itself
iii) Number of content types: 16

Nikolai Thyssen featured in Journalism.co.uk story

Kristine Lowe interviews Nikolai Thyssen about Danish news sites using Drupal for Journalism.co.uk, the British journalism website.

“The price of Drupal is an in-house developer. You get some good building blocks, but you have to think of Drupal as a framework rather than as plug and play: you have to discover everything for yourself,” said Nikolai Thyssen, head of new media for Information.dk.

We've recently redesigned our website, so I took the time to do a small writeup and look back on our switch to Drupal a while ago. Hope you enjoy the read.

Now on Drupal - HamptonRoads.com and PilotOnline.com

Hello all,

I wanted to introduce myself, and our now-powered-by-Drupal sites, PilotOnline.com and HamptonRoads.com. I'm Jeff Anderson, and I work as the product development manager for the interactive division of The Virginian-Pilot newspaper based in Norfolk, Virginia. The Pilot is a top 50/60 U.S. daily newspaper by circulation size, and PilotOnline.com was one of the first newspaper websites to go online in the early 1990s. Along with its sister site HamptonRoads.com, a local portal focused on entertainment, community and local guides, we recently ranked No. 6 in the U.S. in terms of the percentage of users in a local market who use a particular locally-focused site. On December 10, we re-launched both sites on a customized Drupal 5.x platform.

Newspapers, students, and GHOP

As part of the Google Highly Open Participation Contest, add1sun has posted a quick how-to guide for creating a student newspaper with Drupal.

GHOP provides incentives for high school students to participate in open source software projects. As a Summer of Code mentor, I urge everyone to participate. It's a great way to give back to the Drupal community.

Which modules should I try given these circumstances?

I am creating a community news site where anyone is eligible to contribute articles. I have been playing with and learning about drupal a few weeks now. I am pretty comfortable with html and css but not really familiar with php. I have taught myself everything I know through books and net vids so I can figure things out with proper instruction or documentation. I am also a Realtor so I know nothing about running a news organization. The following is what I have as organization so far.

Yet another newspaper site on Drupal

Hi all,

Today was the big launch date of a new newspaper publication in Finland, uusisuomi.fi. The site is a free commercial online news paper. We started this project four months ago and have been extremely busy putting it together ever since. Anyway, the first and hopefully worst part is over as the site is up and running. I hope we can contribute to this group by posting a small how-uusisuomi.fi-put-it-together some day.
Some startup stats (after being online for 7 hours):
