Drupal for collecting Church data

I am trying to create a user friendly report that our ministry leaders can fill out. The more user friendly the better. I have been working with some ideas such as the meetings module which shows some promise. I am leaning toward CCK fields (versus webform)because of the ability of displaying the data in many ways. Each small group has a leader who fills out the report. I would like the list of the people in the small group to show up in a select list as a means of taking/reporting attendance.

Browsing Sermons by Book and Chapter

I have a client who wants to enhance the ways their visitors can browse sermons on the website. The one that currently has me most stymied is replicating what you see here: http://www.keepbelieving.com/scriptures/

Basically, he wants a tab that lists all the books of the bible, when you click on one you get all the chapters in that book. When you click on the chapter, you get all sermons that have to do with that chapter.

Drupal hosting?

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering, what hosting do you use for your Drupal church installations? Our pastor wants us to stay away from GoDaddy because of their questionable advertising in the past.

So, what hosting services are you using? Are you happy with them? Are there any that you have had bad experiences with and want to stay away from?

Thanks!

Need to Vent

Instead of actually accomplishing things the past week I've been trying to debug... Drupal, my install, MySQL. I literally spend ALL day working (not for pay) on this.

Cron will not run. It fails indefinitely.
I finally got one install (I duplicated my site on another server, with the same error) to work by uninstalling getID module. So I go to the other install and do the same thing, nothing.

Hosting Providers or Recommendations?

I did a search but if I missed a post, list, or such, a link is appreciated...

I gained Drupal experience on sites for my professional association (www.nena.org and www.al911.org) and I want to move our Church site to Drupal. I'm struggling to find a host in our price range as we are a very small church and money is tight. We use Slicehost for NENA but $20 a month is not in our price range. I may make hosting part of my financial support of the church and just go that route but I prefer something with Cpanel so it would be easier for someone else to take over if needed.

Know of a good write-up on "Why Churches Should Use Open Source?"

I feel like I'm regularly finding myself needing to persuade churches on the benefits of using open source software (yes, most often Drupal but also OpenOffice and other programs). I always feel like I could have done a better job.

It would be great to have a well written short paragraph with perhaps links to one or more longer papers.

Who has this already? Should we create this?

Need help in organizing content

Hi,

I have a question related to the usage of Drupal to create content. I am basically running 10-15 blogs on various topics and I would like to use a single CMS system to manage them. So I chose Drupal. Now I want to know, whether it makes sense to create different content types for each blog-topic, or just publish everything as stories with appropriate taxonomies? My requirements are as below.

1) I want to have different themes for each blog-topic.
2) I want to have separate blocks for each topic, in the frontpage, which will display the latest 5 posts in that topic.
