Florida Drupal Empire - Branding Poll
BADAss BADCampUK Branding
Thoughts? I think I prefer the original druplicon nose #DrupalCamp #Brighton http://flic.kr/p/bzrH8F http://flic.kr/p/bzqLSk
Text OK? Do we want BADAss or BADCampUK in there anywhere?
Final changes soon so say now or forever...
[update 3/1] OK decided to keep Druplicon's nose the way it is - see attached ;)

TriDUG’s New Logo: Behind The Scenes…
Whoever runs the TriDUG Twitter account, your @ mention today reminded me that I never got around to posting a link here to my portfolio page for the new logo:

A situation that is now remedied! Please feel free to leave your thoughts there or here. I’m in the process of updating and revising my portfolio, but this link should stay the same. If you notice that it goes dead, please let me know, thanks!

Tonight at the TriDUG MeetUp, I presented new variations of ideas for a logo for our Drupal Meetup Group. Please see the attached presentation and leave your comments below. Since this is the next to final round, please limit your comments to verbal questions, concerns, and comments. This will allow for smoother development so that the next phase will truly be the last phase. :)

Principles are important. They ensure consistent and fair decision making and they set objectives for us all to work towards. Most of all, they keep us honest.
We've been looking at establishing a set of principles that encapsulate our intentions in this initiative and give designers a strong story of Drupal. It would be great to get some feedback on the principles we have been working on.

At the last TriDUG meeting, I volunteered to create a logo for the group to use for branding, event signage etc. I was to present tonight at the meeting at Hesketh, but a family obligation (I'm now an uncle!) has prevented me from doing so. Attached are three possibilities for the logo with some possible extensions. Also please reference the attached explanatory document which covers what I would have said during the presentation.

Hi All,
I just thought I'd drop a note in here about some thoughts on branding we're having, and particularly, the Drupal Wordmark.
http://www.markboultondesign.com/news/detail/whats_in_a_wordmark/
This doesn't mean we're ditching Druplicon by any means. What it does mean is that we're progressing the Drupal Wordmark (and associated styleguide) beyond an off-the-shelf typeface.
Read moreThe difference between Drupal Planet and Drupal Talk?
Lately the Drupal Planet is starting to look more and more like Drupal Talk. A whole bunch of people have been added to the Planet the last couple of month and I don't feel it has done a lot of good to the quality of the feed. I wonder what the criteria is to get added to the Planet these days, and even what we expect the Planet to be?

Drupal on the PR end
A discussion worth checking out is this one on a CMS brand survey which amazon posted to the Drupal Group Marketing of Drupal. It references the following survey:
http://www.waterandstone.com/downloads/2008OpenSourceCMSMarketSurvey.pdf
I'm no marketing expert, but it seemed to me that while awards and other trends show Drupal surpassing most, Joomla were kicking our butts when it came to marketing and PR. However Amazon had a pretty good answer to that, though I think there is still much for Drupal to do on the marketing end, and this survey could be some help.
Overall it still looks healthy for Drupal, with Wordpress dominating, Joomla second, and Drupal third and everyone else a looong way off. It's interesting to note that technical proficiency is quite out of tune with marketing, with Drupal (possibly) under-performing, but doing vastly better than, for example, Plone, which has a lot of positives, but is lagging badly in this survey.
