New Groups (Canberra & Melbourne)

Just letting everyone know that there are now region specific groups for Canberra and Melbourne, I have added links to both on the Main Australia page, as well as linking back to Australia from the Melbourne page (I don't have moderator access to the Canberra page).

I'd suggest you joing the group relevant to your region, and when posting events/jobs you check both your region and Australian groups on the node creation form that way they are displayed on both groups.

Against the idea of a business directory module

We built a business directory using Drupal 6 with Solr 3.4 integration. See http://www.webnetwork.com.au

I personally am against building a "business directory" module as I see it would be limiting. Business directory websites can vary so greatly in features so it would be much better to use configurations of different Drupal modules to create a specific set of features rather than a business directory module per se.

In our directory, some of the core modules we used:

Apache Solr
Solr Location
content profile integration extending user profiles

Available for 4 weeks

Hi all

I apologise in advance if this is posted wrongly, since it is effectively an ad. However, this is not a poll, event or job. Should I have just emailed people I know? Tell me.

Anyway (to get to the point), I'm available for 4 weeks freelance Drupal development work via telecommute from Monday 7 May to Thursday 31 May. I work 4 days per week (typically Monday - Thursday) for approximately 8 hours per day, so this is a total of around 128 hours.

meetups on meetup?

Hello everyone!

Chris from Melbourne and occasional drupal Melbourne meetups... I intend to be a lot more involved in the drupal community over the coming months and i had one thought initially that i would be happy to help with.

As far as i know, drupal meetups aren't featured on meetup.com, i know its annoying to sign up to yet another service, but it hosts quite a lot of tech meetups around Australia and it would certainly be a good way to spread the drupal goodness a little further.

This is a new D7 module for finding and replacing text in the database. I find that I often want to be able to do this.

http://astromultimedia.com/db_find_replace.zip

I thought I would share it with you for beta testing before I contrib it. If you could have a play and tell me your suggestions, that would be great!

In the Australian Drupalsphere - Musings from a seven year old community member.

In the Drupalsphere, as we iteratively and creatively work together over long spans of time to define and deliver "The Way Drupal Does Things" (whether in that context "Drupal " refers to the software or the community), there is a constant and necessary tension between the 'keepers of what has come before' and those who see and present perhaps dimly a vision of what could possibly become the next API or Community process.

We have got so far as we have in the last decade because of the handshaking that goes on between those who offer their contributions at those two foci.
