I'm interested in discussing various setups and techniques for exploring large sets of geodata on the web. For starters, I imported the entire dataset of US postal codes into Drupal (as nodes) to see what limitations I could find using the OpenLayers module. The OpenLayers module uses the Views module to assemble datasets and output them to a user's browser where it is then rendered using the OpenLayers javascript mapping library.

I'm building a set of baseline Drupal features, Debut, and as part of that am needing to standardize on leading Drupal solutions for various areas, including map display and geographic data storage.

Feedback requested for:

• Standardize on Geo as location storage solution
• Standardize on OpenLayers as map client solution

Please provide any insights etc. as comments on those issues.

I need to overlay WMS layers over a google maps base layer. The layers are being served by geoserver (WMS version 1.1.1). I've tried a variety of settings on the geoserver side and in the layers section of the openlayers module.

I recently wrote a couple of modules that add some functionality on top of openlayers in conjunction with ThinkShout and wanted to let the group know in case anyone else finds them useful and to gather some early feedback.

I have decided to devote large chunks of my life to learning Openlayers, Openlayers Proximity, and Rules to incorporate into a missing pet web site.

I finally figured out Location, but, Notification Proximity does not appear to function with current Notification.

Openlayers plus Rules appears to allow for proximity and this is very important to alerting people about newly reported pets in their area.

If anyone has experience with Openlayers or Rules, please contact me. I know this is easier than it looks, I have spent hours on Openlayers already....

There are now loads of different ways to do mapping and deal with geographic data in Drupal. One of the most interesting new(ish) approaches is the OpenLayers module (http://drupal.org/project/openlayers). It integrates the open source OpenLayers javascript library (http://openlayers.org) with views, CCK, and all the other Drupal goodness that we know and love. The thing that got me excited about OpenLayers is how easy it is to customize and extend. It integrates with MapBox (http://mapbox.com) - a service being developed by DevSeed (that recently won a $74,000 grant from the Knight Foundation to further this work). Why is this all so exciting? Come along to the session and learn how to set this up in Drupal and discuss the potential applications.

I would really appreciate a quick tutorial on how to build a generic Openlayers (2.x) block that will only display the location for the node (page) it is displayed in. Ideally this block will also center on that location.

I am using the Location Module and have successfully created an Openlayers Module map View (rendered via Cloudmade as page and also block) that displays locations filtered by content type.

The next step is to just display one of these locations dynamically (based upon location data available in the currently viewed node) ..?

We're working very hard on the 2.x revision of the OpenLayers module, and it's becoming more useful by the day. Here's the current backlog for a 2.x release that I'm working on currently:

I've developed a module called Geo GUI (http://drupal.org/project/geo_gui). You can download from csv from /contributions/modules/geo_gui.

It uses OpenLayers so that you can draw on a map for inputting polygon, line, and point information in the geo CCK fields. So instead of using WKT to input complex geometries, we can simply draw.

I would love some feedback!
