Drupal

Installation:
The current version of Drupal is 4.7 as of this writing. It can be downloaded at drupal.org and installed on any server running PHP & MySQL with little problem. The installation process is well documented but there are a lot of variables involved in the configuration once you have it up. This document will mainly try to address these choices and present possibilities and examples from various IMCs.

Module Installation:
Once you have the core of Drupal installed you will probably want to install some modules. This is where the drupal experience can become quite confusing, exciting and time consuming. There are a wide variety of modules available for download from drupal.org, and many of them are constantly updating and adding features. Some of them duplicate functions and others hardly work. For an indymedia site to work we will want to enable a few of them at least in order to give multi-media functionality to the drupal site. Here are a few modules I'd recommend.

This has been in the works for a while, but now it’s official: http://openacademic.org

This is an open source project designed to integrate Elgg, Drupal, Moodle, and Mediawiki. All code that fuels the integration will be released back to the community.

The project is a collaborative venture between the Elgg team and FunnyMonkey.

In the next few weeks, we’ll be building out the infrastructure to support the project, including a development site to centralize the integration discussions and coding, as well as a svn repository for the codebase.

Finally finished it. Their happens to be a permission problem still though. Users not uid=1 will not be able to view the node that is recommended or access the recommendations page. Pretty sure you can fix that in the admin panel but havent done that yet. If any can shed some light on it please do. 100k movielens is not done, it is in a different file format thereby requiring a different program.

Jouduin työni ohessa kääntämään Drupalin 4.7 -version suomeksi, se on nyt saatavilla täältä. Odottelen vielä sen siirtoa CVS:ään, jotta sen ympärille saisi jonkinlaisen suomen kielen projektin. Tänään laitoin pienen päivityksenkin siihen. Imuttakaa se uudempi paketti, vanhassa on enemmän virheitä ;), vaikka siinä onkin mukana suhteellisen laaja export-käännös omalta palvelimeltani.

Pian on taas pari uutta Drupaliin perustuvaa suomalaista sivustoa Internetissä, kun saan työni päätökseen. Loistava softa! :)

Päivitys: Joh, CVS on nyt pystyssä, mutten sitten osaa käyttää sitä, taidan olla vähän käsi.

Does anyone have recommendations for a Drupal theme design company in town? We need some help making our new web site look appealing at my day job. I will also take recommendations for people out of town who would be able to help also.
