Welcome to the Minneapolis/St. Paul Drupal Group -- the place to get involved with the Twin Cities Drupal community whether you're new, a core contributor to the Drupal project or somewhere in between. Register for the group to get posting privileges and to be notified of what's going on.
Looking to connect with other local friendly Drupal people? Check out the Events tab for a rundown of our regular meetups and other upcoming Drupal-related events.
You can also join your Drupal peers and mentors in a couple of places:
- Slack tends to be more active these days. Join https://tcdrupal.slack.com. If you need an invite go here to get an automatic invite to the Slack team
- IRC -- #drupal-twin-cities on irc.freenode.net -- to ask questions, propose ideas, socialize. Check out Drupal.org for more info about IRC and Drupal including how to create a new account and connect. Or come to the next local meetup and someone will help you get started.
Maintenance mode using server files?
Question: Is there an easy way in Cpanel or within a Drupal file on the server to temporarily take your Drupal 7 site offline and then turn it back on?
I can't use the maintenance mode in the Drupal admin, it needs to be done using the server files.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Corey

I've determined I'm not going to make enough money quickly enough as a solo site builder / developer to be able to get by, so I need to find actual, regular employment. Ideally this would be doing something working with Drupal, or at least using a similar skill set.
However, I do not have a background in computer science, programming, etc. I've built a number of Drupal sites (no custom module work) over the past few years, I worked as a System Administrator from 2000-2002 and I've used some flavor of Linux as my desktop environment since then. My undergrad degree is in History...

July TC Drupal meetup (TONIGHT!): Vagrant
Join us TONIGHT for the July 2014 TC Drupal meetup on Wednesday July 23rd from 7-9PM at Intermedia Arts in Minneapolis.
I bet you thought we’d be all wrapped up in summer and forget about the meetup, didn’t ya? Well we didn’t. It’s happening tonight! So if you made other plans, break ‘em and join us.
Topic? At last month’s meetup, Tess (socketwench) mentioned the open source virtual development environment software Vagrant and how useful it can be to set up flexible, accurate development environments for working on Drupal sites (and code) development locally. She agreed (to much fanfare) to show us Vagrant and how to get it up and running. This will be our presentation topic tonight.

You've probably noticed there's been some discussion about incorporation the Twin Cities Drupal User Group as a non-profit. Let's get together at DrupalCamp and try to bring the discussion to closure.
Some things to discuss:
- What are the reasons for incorporating?
- How do we incorporate? What about annual renewals and tax statements?
- How would the corporation function? How would our corporation work with the Drupal Association?
Drupalcorn Ridesharing
Drupalcorn is just a few days and I know there are several of us going. Do we have any plans to share a car for the camp?
My car is in reasonably good condition, but it's tiny. It could certainly take one additional person and luggage. Three would be a sqeeze. I would be able to leave sometime Thursday afternoon and return sometime Sunday.

Larry Garfield is coming to the Twin Cities to speak at the Nerdery on Monday, July 14, at 6:30 p.m. as part of the Crafting Code Tour. He'll be talking about the increasing sharing that goes on between different PHP projects, including Drupal.
Brandon Savage will also be talking about tools to help evaluate the quality of your code.
Events at the Nerdery (9555 James Ave S Suite 245, Bloomington, MN) are always a good time, and there will be an after-hours drinkup at the Sports Page (9014 Lyndale Ave S, Bloomington, MN 55420) afterwards.
Should be fun!
Read moreTC Drupal Coordinating Committee
I may have accidentally started a rumor that the next TC Drupal Coordinating Committee would be prior to the July happy hour (this Thursday). In reviewing my notes, I now see that it would normally be scheduled for the first Thursday in August. HOWEVER, the first Thursday in August is opening night of TC Drupal Camp - so, I can be pretty sure that it will not happen then.
Prior TC Drupal Coordinating Committee meetings happened in: November, February, and May.

Hi Marlette,
I hope you are doing well today.
I have a client in Fargo, ND who is looking for a Drupal developer on a part-time basis. The work is primarily in Fargo, but you could be based remotely in the Twin Cities.
Please send me a quick note if you are interested in learning more details, or forward it to a friend who might be a good fit. I am offering a $500 referral fee.

stpaultim and I have been working on an ongoing support project that has been a little tricky. The client wants to be able to generate a single PDF download that combines a number of specific nodes from the site. We've been able to use the Views PDF module to create the PDF download, but the formatting within the document is pretty bad (and the functionality overall is a little unpredictable).
Anyone else have experience with this module or functionality? Can we buy you a drink to talk it over?

June TC Drupal meetup: 2014 DrupalCon Austin knowledge share
Join us for the June 2014 TC Drupal meetup on Wednesday June 25th from 7-9PM at Intermedia Arts in Minneapolis.
We'll spend our time this month sharing what your fellow TC Drupal community members learned while in Austin for DrupalCon Austin earlier this month. The TC Drupal community was prominently represented in Austin a few weeks ago. Your fellow local Drupalers participated in pre-con trainings and summits; presented official sessions; convened BoFs; mentored new core sprinters; schmoozed at vendor tables and saw bats (sort of). Come here about the best (and worst?) sessions so you can know which 'con videos to watch. Hear about the backroom discussions, decisions, gossip. Bring your questions about Drupal and its future. Those of you who attended, this is your chance to turn your 'con experience into giving back to the community!
IMPORTANT: This month we'll be in ArtsHub West, the building behind the main Intermedia Arts building. Enter ArtsHub West's main entrance which is on Aldrich Ave S. There is a performance at Intermedia so parking in the Lyndale and Aldrich lots may be limited if you arrive later.
