Ottawa

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Welcome to the Drupal Ottawa User Group. We will use this group to develop the Drupal community in Ottawa, to plan local events (DrupalCamps, informal get-togethers, etc.) and to share success stories and planned / completed drupal implementations. Public servants (this is Ottawa after all) interested in deploying bilingual / Common Look & Feel compliant governmental web sites will find colleagues in this group facing the same challenges related to the introduction of drupal in the federal government.

Spamming the federal government about Drupal

Would the person who is sending spam messages to government employees promoting Drupal (pretending that it's coming from phoney government email addresses) please knock it off?

It's totally having the reverse effect in that it makes the community look both sneaky and stupid and it's interfering with the legitimate communications effort (which is progressing well enough without this garbage).

If you're going to send spam at least use your own name and address.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Looking to meet fellow Drupal developers in Ottawa

Hello everyone,

I recently moved here from Vancouver and am looking to meet some local Drupal developers. I'm still fairly new to Drupal, but am learning more every day. I'm currently working on my new personal site, as well as another small project.

Would anyone be interested in getting together for coffee to chat, or perhaps organizing something a bit larger and more formal like a meetup? I'm curious to hear about other people's experiences with Drupal and what they are working on. According to Michael Lechasseur, we could continue to meet in the space at Artengine in Arts Court.

Treasury Board talking a single CMS for government

This summer, the Treasury Board told Canadian government departments not to go shopping for new web content and EDRMS systems because they're planning on procuring a single solution or set of solutions for the entire government (i.e. everyone will have the same solution, possibly centrally managed).

This has obvious implications for open source products like Alfresco and Drupal, especially if TB is going to go through the typical RFP process.

Anyone heard anything more about TB's plans and whether they're taking OSS into consideration?

Multilingual sprint in Montreal (Sep, 2011) - Updated

Start:
2011-09-14 09:00 - 2011-09-18 20:00 America/Montreal
Event type:
Sprint

Update: Notman House (http://notman.org), a hub for the tech community in Montreal, is providing the venue free of charge.

Update: the Multilingual Drupal sprint is a go for September 14th, 15th, and 16th with a possibility to run into Drupalcamp a bit over the weekend! The local organizers are busy to secure a fancy place for us. Let us know if you need help getting there or can help us in some way!

I just got an invite a couple days ago from Matt Corks to attend Drupalcamp Montreal 2011 and help organize a multilingual Drupal sprint (such as the one we had in May in Berlin), focusing on solving outstanding issues in the Drupal 8 Multilingual core initiative list.

While this is still pretty much up in the air (definitely don't make travel arrangements yet!), I'd like to ask for feedback on who would like to come, so we can refine the timing and space allocation for the sprint and look for sponsors. I did specify dates here, but those are subject to change as needed/discussed. The Drupalcamp itself is on the 17th and 18th of September.

Are you nearby and would like to join? Would you like to come but need sponsoring? We can hopefully get some Drupal Association sponsorship as part of the recently announced grants program if we can make our case, so don't be shy.

Eleven years ago, we were a small shop and since then we have opened multiple locations (Victoria, Vancouver, Calgary, New Brunswick, Seattle and Dubai) and developed a deep love for Drupal which then lead to us building 'Q College', which offers diploma programs in Drupal.

stuck with something, looking for help from a freelancer

Hey everyone,

I am making a site where the client wants to be able to create galleries and to bulk upload photos (sometimes 100 at a time!) into them. The gallery then needs to have cooliris/piclens ideally, or maybe some type of lightbox. They want their visitors to have access to the original image too, as they sometimes need to see little details in the photo. That makes 3 different presets easily available, on top of the bulk upload and the easy display of large galleries (this is why we're talking of cooliris, but feel free to suggest).
