Welcome to the Drupal Ottawa User Group. We will use this group to develop the Drupal community in Ottawa, to plan local events (DrupalCamps, informal get-togethers, etc.) and to share success stories and planned / completed drupal implementations. Public servants (this is Ottawa after all) interested in deploying bilingual / Common Look & Feel compliant governmental web sites will find colleagues in this group facing the same challenges related to the introduction of drupal in the federal government.
Open Source Technology showcase - SC2010
FOSSLC will be hosting our 3rd annual conference on Saturday, August 14th, 2010. The event will take place at the University of Ottawa Campus, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
This open source technology showcase is an opportunity for the open source developers, entrepreneurs, and users to mingle and share ideas. Over 30 talks during the conference will cover technical, legal, and business aspects of open source use in private industry, community, and government. This event is relevant to technical and non-technical audiences. Talks will be a mix of skill levels.

Way back in October it was discussed that the Ottawa group would be interested in hosting a DrupalCamp sometime around June. Has there been any talk of this lately? Is there anything Montreal can do to help you guys get one underway?

I haven't heard from anyone about an alternate meeting place, so I'm putting this event in the calendar (and booking the usual room at National Union, 15 Auriga Drive).
A few members of our group attended DrupalCon in San Francisco, and offered to talk about what they learned.

My site www.dance-ottawa.com is getting more traffic, as well as postings and users from outside Ottawa.
Its occurred to me that it would be handy to have a block on the site that lets me set session variables for user location and proximity range for the current visitors. I could then use these values in location proximity searches to help filter down the content.

I changed the title to open up this discussion a bit from "anyone using Primus" to more generic request for recommendations on Canadian based host companies.
Anyone (stuck) using Primus to host their Drupal sites?
Primus uses Zeus as a web server platform and it does not support mod_rewrite required for clean urls.

I'm really not sure what's going to be discussed, but we've been doing a lot more management type stuff the past few meetings, so this one will be for the developers to talk about best practices.
As always, discussion here is welcome, and signups help with the planning.

The format of having snacks, intros, then a discussion led by someone able to field some questions seems to work best for us.
Someone offered to talk about Multisite in December, but I can't remember who. Please discuss here, and step up.

Hello all,
I am currently hosting my drupal sites with Netfirms.ca and I got a really bad surprise two days ago when the web site stoped responding with a 500 server error!
If you have any good hosting you recommend and bad ones to avoid please share them.
Thanks

I just wanted to pass on that there's a Canadian government Common Look and Feel (CLF) 2.0 theme that's been developed by Gabriel Duong at PWGSC. I discovered it today while browsing GCPedia. If you're inside the government firewall you can find it at http://www.gcpedia.gc.ca/wiki/Drupal_CLF_2.0_template.
Here's the description from GCPedia

Views photo gallery/slideshow question - Can you help me figure this one out?
Hello Everyone,
Because our last meet-up was on the Views module and advanced techniques, I allow myself to post this here. It is also posted on drupal.org, but I haven't had any responses...
I am having a hard time explaining that in a clear and concise way, so please bear with me and ask any questions you may have to clarify...
I am using CCK, Views2, Lightbox2, imagecache.
I am using the story content type to which I added an image field and some taxonomy fields as well.

Hey gang,
Not sure what has happened to our local meetups; maybe slowed down over the summer, and maybe not this month due to Montreal DCamp... but..
I wouldn't mind presenting a session on Views for Drupal 6.
For those that don't know Views (aka Views 2) in Drupal 6 has been completely redone from Drupal 5 days.. and IT ROCKS!!! No, seriously, Views2 is by far the most powerful web creation tool on the planet. Even if you were pretty familiar with Drupal 5 Views; you'd really need to see Views2 to get an idea of just how powerful this is.

Governments around the world are pressing to be more innovative in their use
of technology, to be more open to the public, and to do even more with
reduced budgets. And as more and more information is being delivered through
the Internet, there are increasing calls to have that information be secure,
accessible, and readily available.
There is a lot of information to maintain on a Government site. Whether it

In honor of the Drupal 7 feature freeze in September we're focusing the theme for this meetup on D7 patches.
I'm hoping that everyone will come with a laptop with the CVS version of D7 installed locally. Now most of us don't work from this version of Drupal, so I've posted a screencast:

Ottawa June Meetup | Theme: Media
The theme for this meetup will be Media. There were questions being asked at the May meetup about best practices to provide video and audio content in a Drupal site so we will be discussing ways to do this. If anyone has a lot of experience and wishes to offer a more formal presentation on what they've done, the challenges they faced and how they over came them please comment and we'll work it into the evening.

Hi there!
We had a great meeting about Install Profiles last night. I am needing some help theming a view and was encouraged yesterday to not be shy and post my request here. So here I go!
I have a user type view with a bunch of fields generated by the core Profiles module and displayed as an unformatted list. I am using the latest version of drupal and views. I need help doing 2 things:
