Giving Sponsors Value
DrupalCamps, code sprints, and even Drupalcons are hard to hold without sponsors. It's important that sponsors are given a good value for their money or they will not sponsor future events. There are many ways to provide value to sponsors. The goal of this page is to come up with a list of many of these ways.
There is also a lot of great information about organizing events and handling sponsorship money on the DrupalCamp Organizing Guide.

Hello.
I run a small Drupal shop a little ways out of Ottawa, ON. To date, I haven't had any local clients; all the projects I've picked up have been through the Drupal forums, and word of mouth.
However, I want to begin expanding into the local market. I live in a small city with a few web development shops. I really think I can offer better value for the money than any of the local competitors.
In my opinion, there are some fairly clear benefits to having a local clientelle:

Hi,
This week sees the release of iteration 11.

-
Marketplace

-
Themes landing page
-
Search_by theme
-
Home page
-
Dashboard
There has been a lot of great feedback on the iteration 10 post, thank you all for your valuable input.

Hi,
This week sees the release of iteration 10 in the Drupal redesign prototype.
http://drupal.markboultondesign.com/iteration10
We're currently working with the Drupal Association to further define an advertising strategy for the redesigned d.o. Therefore, we've included a few more ads, but it probably isn't indicative of the final strategy.
Read moreDrupal for a Personnel/HR Database
Has anyone used Drupal in an HR or Personnel database sort of scenario? I imagine that this would stretch the profile area or would mean some heavy CCK work. I'm thinking about this sort of application internally at an organization I work with as we track a lot of non-standard information due to the nature of our work and would appreciate your thoughts.

Prospective developer/consultant (with 'tainted history') seeks advice
Hi people,
I'm an experienced freelance programmer / 'sql expert' / 'business consultant' in need of a career shift.
I think Drupal as an environment (the things you can work on, the community) would make me happy.
However my programming experience with PHP/Drupal is very small. I'd have to 'get into it' (very probably unpaid) for a couple of months.
That's fine - but because of that, I'm somewhat afraid of diving in there without feedback. Is there enough work if you're good?

Mentors/coaches for proposals
One observation I've had from lurking in the Knight Drupal Initiative meetings is something that's haunted me before. If only I was good at writing a solid grant proposal and subsequent review and revisions, some of my pie-in the sky ideas might actually turn into something valuable for the community (and provide a self-sustainable way for me to contribute).
Read moreDo you own the code if the work has only been partially paid for?
Hey there,
In situations where one received a retainer/starting deposit and the work ends up being 5 times the starter (no price ceiling has been expressed by the client/broker) but has not been paid for in 30/45/60 days of an invoice, does the coder/site builder reserve the right of ownership for all code generated as well as configuration settings of a site?
This is assuming no contract has been written.

Pretty neat, I have nifty excel sheets for portions of this, so it's cool to see an easy web app for people to know about and use to know if they're charging right or not.
Read moreWhat does your business card look like?
I want to order some business cards for Drupal development work, and I'm wondering what they should look like. Fellow contractors and consultants: what are your cards like? What works for you, and why?
I liked my old cards (they say "Technical Writer"), but I think the design may be too conservative for this business. I'll be giving the card to designers and potential clients whom I meet through designers; even if I'm really a geeky old fart, my card shouldn't announce it.
Read moreRetainer discussion
I would like to open up a discussion on retainers for drupal web developers. I started the conversation on drupal.org here: http://drupal.org/node/286539 and I would like to continue that here.
As a drupal consultant or as a client hiring drupal developers/designers/etc, what are your thoughts on retainers?

Hello, just joined here - looks like a very worthwhile place to be.
Might anybody here be interested in collaborative creation of a lightweight commercially oriented CRM system (on Drupal of course)? The final objective could be a commercial package, open source, hosted service or some combination depending on individual opinions & requirements.

Seeing that no session appeared to be planned yet for Szeged, I submitted one:

Feel free to comment, edit, submit something else: it would be a pity not to have at least one EC session at Drupalcon, would it not ?

Read moreSeeking e-commerce solution/recipie
Recently we were tasked with building an e-commerce solution for a client that has an old homegrown solution. We have been researching the e-commerce and ubercart modules - with still no clear decision.
A few key points that our clients expect:
- Easy inventory manager
- Ability for a customer to search every field in the product description (something we're unsure either of these modules allow - outside of drupal core search)
- Ability to "Express order" - for repeat customers that know what item # they are looking for, they can enter it in at a prompt and it adds to the cart.

These are two new African projects that I am about to sign off . The first is self-descriptive and it is the online edition of a magazine named IT Business in Africa which is meant to be a meeting hub for CEOs, CIOs and all ICT professionals in Africa . The second is a public appraisal website for Nigerian leaders.
