Consulting and Business

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

A group for consultants and businesses that work with Drupal. You are encourage to also join the consulting mailing list on Drupal.org.

For consultants: project manager, consultant, or developer -- you use Drupal to solve business requirements.

For businesses: you've built your business using the Drupal framework, be it hosting, a social networking website, a newspaper, or a fantastic new Web 2.0 app.

Dedicated Drupal jobs site

Hi all,

We were wondering if a dedicated Drupal hiring site would be useful. At the moment jobs posts are sort of spread across a few sites, and the jobs section in g.d.o, while very useful, isn't really the best tool for the job (our own opinion, and from what we've been told).

So we thought we would create a dedicated site where you can post jobs, fixed bid projects and also apply for work and show off your Drupal dev profile. We want to keep the quality high and allow users to filter irrelevant content and spam. Most of all, we want this to be useful to the community.

Standard Operating Procedure Management

General Use

A Standing Operating Procedure: A set of instructions covering those features of operations which lend themselves to a definite or standardized procedure without loss of effectiveness. Also called SOP.

I've been developing Drupal pages for 2 years and have done a few contract jobs, but mostly work with Drupal in my full-time position. I need to draft a new contract as a technical consultant and/or drupal developer. Does anyone have any good contract document examples that they could post?

Survey: What do Drupalistas do?

We worked on this survey collaboratively to gain an understanding of what people really do in Drupal. We formed a hypothesis that 'roles' exist conceptually, but maybe not in the wild. Read some background to the working group.

Take the survey http://gs-survey.com/s.asp?s=12001

About it: This survey is a first step in understanding what Drupalistas do.
Who should take it? People who develop, design and maintain Drupal websites.
The survey takes approximately 8 minutes to complete.

Please help spread the word, thank you!

Finding Drupal Developers for your project

There's a lot of interest in Freelance Drupal Developers right now as the market place embraces the technology. You could say there's an explosion of interest and limited resources.

I'm currently receiving a couple of requests per day for quotes. Some of these expressions of interest look very appealing, offering good working conditions, rates and are high profile projects. Some requests for quotes are hard to distinguish from spam, being emails with no salutations or no project details and are sent from hotmail addresses or the like that look slightly suspicious.

Preliminary questionnaire for clients who didn't define what they want

I've made a webform usefull as first step with clients who are not coming with a project clearly defined for you and/or form themselves.

Am I the only one who is seeing that so often ?

So here is a questionnaire and I've exported the webform so you can use it as a base for your own.

You should use the node_export module to re-import seamlessly the form.

SPAM, SPAM, mmm, SPAM

This does not seem to be a forum created to advertise businesses and services-- especially not by using the "create job" link 2 minutes after creating an account. (There are other lists and groups for that). Can we clean up some of the SPAM?

How and why entrepreneurs/small business owners should go for Drupal?

Today, entrepreneurs who own start-ups or small/medium business are faced with a quick need to setup e-business/ecommerce website with limited budget. They may not even know what tools are required or how to hire a consultant for their website development needs. I(as an entrepreneur with a small team) have been handling 5 to 10 such new clients per month from around the world. I thought it would be helpful to list out some useful tips and advice for such businessmen so that they can get their website developed with minimal hassles.

    ERP project

Just a quick note to let people know that the erp project is nearing the launch of beta3, and has had a huge amount of development in the last four months.

If you are interested, now is a good time to check it out. There are certainly rough edges, and things not implemented fully, but we are using it to run our business, so there is a lot in there, and we are improving and finalising things every day.

Expect beta3 early next week, but for now, grab the dev release to try it out.

Mac users: what do you use to create password-protected zip archives?

A client wanted to send over some confidential information and was wondering how to password-protect a zip file. Incredibly, I couldn't find any graphical zip archive utilities for OS X that encrypt files, work in Snow Leopard and are free. 7zX claims to do this but it has some scary user-submitted reviews. Zippist looks promising but it doesn't seem to work in Snow Leopard. I actually use Path Finder or the command line for this, but it's unreasonable to ask most clients to do the same.

Drupal Kata (our homegrown project learning program) is taking shape

    Hi there -

Just to follow up for those who aren't already aware/involved (most of you), the Drupal Kata (http://drupalkata.com/) is up and running and we're starting to generate a bit of interest. That said, we're still very much in need of leaders, mentors, advisers, and apprentices in the areas of project/sprint/task management, education, business, and marketing. Developers, designers, themers, are obviously pretty key, but it helps when there are people to provide guidance.

These may be good points of entry -
