Design for Drupal is about bringing the community of designers together to be a part of the Drupal community. It’s about enabling designers and themers to do great stuff, coordinate efforts, come up with crazy ideas, and build a movement to make Drupal beautiful.

Drupal 8 Mobile UX Roadmap
As we found out in London, Drupal's mobile admin interface faces some big obstacles to overcome. If we want to to be able to tackle some of these problems in the next release cycle we need focus, the idea being we don't move on to the next item in till we have the previous one licked. I've whipped up proposal for our road map. This is by no means complete, there is plenty of detail to fill in.
I'm hoping we can work on it together.

Building mobile solutions encompasses a large problem space: native apps, HTML5 web apps, responsive design, device capability detection, mobile/desktop switching, front-end performance, etc.
I'm seeing lots of really interesting contrib modules and themes tackling mobile problems in Drupal 7.
Since Dries has already indicated that mobile will be an important aspect of Drupal 8, my question is:
what do you think Drupal 8 core (not contrib) should provide for mobile solutions out of the box?

Over the past months we've had many discussions here in the d4d group, at various Drupal camps, IRC and in the issue queues. I have kept notes and references to most of these discussions and based on those prepared a proposed design brief for the design initiative. It would be good if someone can enable comments on this wiki page, so we can discuss this and make changes etc to the brief. This is my initial idea - what is missing is a link to a demo site (I am setting that up today, I have a pretty good boilerplate site thats a good starting point).

On September 11, 2011, the Drupal project scored a huge win. Dries Buytaert committed a patch, officially dropping IE6 support in Drupal 8! This is exciting news for Drupal, as it will allow us to get rid of some legacy baggage, and use more clean and modern coding techniques. It also translates to less of a burden for contributors.

FitVids is a new module for fluid width videos.
http://drupal.org/project/fitvids
It uses the FitVids.js library for fluid width video embeds (YouTube, Vimeo, etc).
It's useful if you are using a responsive theme (such as Omega), and want the videos to scale.
Available for Drupal 6 and 7.

I posed the following question on Twitter, and thought the answers might be helpful to others (as well as a place to archive further discussion that's actually searchable :P).
Here were some of the more detailed responses. This is a wiki, so feel free to add additional ones, either in the post or comments!

On the Friday of Drupalcon London we ran a Mobile Usability Testing Session on Drupal's admin interface.

We had a strong turnout, with lots of enthusiasm from the testers. We managed to test the UI on the following devices:
- Nokia N900
- Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc
- HTC Sensation
- Samsung galaxy s2
- iPad 2
- iPhone 4
- iPhone 3GS
- iPhone 3G
Here are some of the thoughts I came away with after the session.

After D4D Boston 2011, videos of most of the sessions were added to the session pages. Awesome!
Unfortunately it doesn't look a human being or service is being used to manage comments or account approval on the site so it is quickly filling up with comment spam. Not so awesome.
So thanks to the effort several volunteers have already put into the site and conference we had this great resource, but because it isn't being maintained we can't really point people to a session page with adding a disclaimer...

Mobile user experience
People are accessing with the web more and more on the move from their mobile devices. If it hasn’t already, it will be a basic expectation of any product to be just as usable from any device as it is on the desktop. Drupal has some catching up to do and then some. We need to make Drupal 8 friendly with tomorrow’s devices as well as today’s.
This sprint will focus on usability testing on a wide range of devices. Bring your phone, tablet, web enabled e-reader or gaming device.
