Google Summer of Code 2012

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Welcome potential Google Summer of Code 2012 students and mentors!

SoC 2012 Announcements from Google.

If you already know what you want to do just create a discussion.

Google Summer of Code is a global program that offers post-secondary student developers ages 18 and older stipends to write code for various open source software projects. We have worked with open source, free software, and technology-related groups to identify and fund projects over a three month period. Since its inception in 2005, the program has brought together over 6000 successful student participants and over 3000 mentors from over 100 countries worldwide, all for the love of code. Through Google Summer of Code, accepted student applicants are paired with a mentor or mentors from the participating projects, thus gaining exposure to real-world software development scenarios and the opportunity for employment in areas related to their academic pursuits. In turn, the participating projects are able to more easily identify and bring in new developers. Best of all, more source code is created and released for the use and benefit of all.

This group is for posting and discussing GSoC project ideas, as well as for general conversation that relates to the SoC. You can also get help on the #drupal-contribute IRC channel on freenode (irc://irc.freenode.net/drupal-contribute).

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SUBMIT PROJECT IDEAS OR TO RE-SUBMIT IDEAS FROM LAST YEAR!

Finally, read HOWTO: Write a Summer of Code application.

New theme with resizable regions using mouse drag

Here's an idea, imagine creating a theme where you can resize your regions by simply dragging their borders, and have those changes saved in the DB associated with a node, allowing designers to quickly make custom page layouts without the need to modify any css/template.

Equally useful will be the ability to attach background images to any region on any node, since combined with the resizing capability it can minimize any css/template code changes for designers.

Google Summer of Code is Back for 2012

He works as a Drupal consultant with companies like CivicActions and Lullabot.

He is now an engineer for Acquia.
Jimmy BerryJimmy Berry (boombatower) was instrumental in the development of Drupal's automated testing framework, and he and his father Jim Berry (solotandem) were the first Google Summer of Code father/son team! :) They both offer testing-related services at http://boombatower.com. Lin ClarkLin Clark (linclark) created SPARQL Views, making it possible to query SPARQL endpoints from Views, as part of GSoC 2010. Version Abstraction For Module Customizations

One of the main problems faced by Drupal Developers today is that modules customized for a particular application cannot be updated to newer versions without loss of customizations. When updates to such modules are released for a newer version, the developer has to rewrite the customization from scratch in the new version.

I would be interested in working towards the creation of an abstraction layer/module, that would enable version free customizations of Drupal modules for Google Summer Of Code 2012.

Now, this module can basically work in the following way:-
