Working with content field values in a block

I am trying to create a block in Drupal7 that is taking information from the page that the block is displayed on.

Something like this:
Please request more information <a href="/webform/info?line=<taxonomy value>&prod=<content field value>">here</a>.

Where the "taxonomy value" is set as a value on the content type that was created. And the same goes for "content field value".

This will allow me to help pre-populate some fields on the linked webform by passing values through the url.

TC Drupal meetup this Wednesday April 24th

Start:
2013-04-24 19:00 - 21:00 America/Chicago
Organizers:
Event type:
User group meeting

The Twin Cities Drupal April meetup is this Wednesday, April 24th from 7-9PM at Intermedia Arts. With more snow on the way, sunny July seems impossibly far away. But it's not too early to be thinking about DrupalCamp Twin Cities. The camp website will be launched soon and with it session submissions will be opened. Our mission this year is to encourage a wide variety of sessions from an even wider variety of presenters. This means you! For this first 30 minutes or so of this month's meetup, veteran camp and DrupalCon presenter Joe Shindelar will be sharing some myth and anxiety-busting info about presenting. Join us for Joe's tips and inspiration.

And that's not all -- after Joe we'll be opening the meeting for our new frighteningly popular regular feature: lightning talks. This month, there'll be a twist. You'll have to join us to find out what that's all about. Just show up with a burning question, a problem you've solved (or needs solving), a site or module you love (or hate), an issue you'd like to hear others weigh in on -- whatever. We'll give you a brief platform to share and receive feedback. The more sharing, the more learning and inspiration.

Oh, and don't forget there will be pizza. Bring a beverage to share and the socialization will be that much better.

Local Drupal Introductions/Connections

I see that there are 450 people listed as "members" of this online group. Last I checked the turn-out at local meet-ups and happy hours is a bit smaller. :-)

As an experiment, I'm starting this discussion as an opportunity for all local Drupal folks (including those who can't make the meetings) to:

1) Introduce themselves
2) Share something about their involvement in Drupal
3) ALSO - indicate what they are looking for in the Drupal community at this time (a little matchmaking).
examples:
* Looking for projects
* Looking for internship
* Looking for job

launching 7 site in godaddy

I inherited an existing Drupal 7 site in godaddy in the following path:

root (html folder name)
index.html
/temp
/cc
/.hcc.thumbs

/test/all the drupal folders

client placed it there so it would be test.example.com
hired me to make finalize changes and design of site within what they had.
they now want it moved out of there to the root folder and launched.

I moved the folders from with test to the main folder
renamed existing temp folder and moved the drupal temp folder

Drupal Core Sprint / Drupal Camp Website

Organizers:
Event type:
Sprint

Sorry for the last minute announcement.

Tess and I are planning to meet again on Saturday (April 13th) from 11:00am - 3:00pm at I Am Coffee on Lyndale to do some more work on Drupal CORE.

I'm also working on the 2013 Drupal Camp website and may use this time for that purpose. If anyone wants to join us to work on the website, they are welcome. (Keri may also announce an alternative time/location for working on the Drupal Camp website).

In short, anyone interested in either working on Drupal Core issues or the Drupal Camp website are welcome.

Displaying Node Titles Depending on Content Type Node

I have two content types (product and case study). On the case study content type I have an entity reference to the product content type (the idea being that you can associate a case study to one or multiple products). Now I'm trying to setup a view (block) that will be placed in the sidebar of the product nodes. This view block will need to list case study node titles that have a reference to that product node.

I think I need to use Contextual Filters - but I'm not sure what settings I need - or maybe I need a relationship (too)? Any advice?

Topic Suggestions for Future TCDrupal Meetup or Camp presentations

If anyone is looking for something to do a presentation or lightning talk on at a future TC Drupal group meeting (or Drupal Camp), here are some things I'm interested in learning more about:

  • Best practices for SPAM control - I've done the basics and am amazed at what is still getting through. I have yet to find time to research what I'm forgetting.

  • Distributions - I've overlooked the option of Drupal Distributions in the past. Starting to wonder if I should look closer at them. When do they make the most sense?

Indented Grouping

I was recently asked if I could create a list of products on our website. My catch is that a few of the products require the install of another product. So I need to indent the products that depend on another product.

Something like this:

<Product 1 Title>
<Product 1 Description>

     <Product 2 Title>
     <Product 2 Description>

     <Product 3 Title>
     <Product 3 Description>

<Product 4 Title>
<Product 4 Description>

<Product 5 Title>
<Product 5 Description>

Visualizing Neighborhoods, a Hackathon for Good (May 25th)

Start:
2013-05-25 09:00 - 18:00 America/Chicago
Organizers:
Event type:
Related event (ie. not Drupal specific)

I am very excited to announce Visualizing Neighborhoods, a Hackathon for Good on May 25th at the Minneapolis Central Library 9AM to 6PM. Organized by the Center for Urban and Regional Affairs (CURA) and consulting from many local groups, this is going to be a very awesome event.

As Drupalers, there will be lots of opportunity to use Drupal to power the backend and data side of data visualizations. It will also be a great opportunity to learn new things and strengthen up those JS skills. It'll be lots of fun and I encourage you to come and bring friends.

Visualizing Neighborhoods is a day-long event to bring together
neighborhood leaders, technologists, data visualizers, designers,
artists, scientists, civil servants, and anyone else interested to
explore how data can be used for research, analyzing, mapping,
outreach, engagement, and communication in our neighborhoods. The
goals are to start conversations, build community, experiment, and
prototype projects for neighborhoods or localized groups.
