So I've been starting down the path of building a stronger community at Penn State that's interested in Drupal. I know of about 60+ interested parties who at least want some more information about how Drupal could be used at my university. I'm also mentoring 4 or so students / staff in Drupal and as part of that effort, began to write an online book in Drupal to go over the basics or at least provide links out to other locations so they could get up to speed quickly. This began my thinking of a drupal@psu resource until I began to think a bit more about the resource. Why build a book showcasing what we're doing at PSU and getting people a high level introduction to Drupal when I'm sure there are other universities, schools, and consultant groups looking to do the same thing? Thus the book has been branded Drupal in Education and this is the first call to (hopefully) action. If you go here you can see at least the outline that exists thus far: http://elearning.psu.edu/drupalineducation/
I have most of the first chapter filled out and some of the later materials about what we're doing at the e-Learning Institute to support Drupal but now I turn to the group at large. I saw a thread the other day asking for Pro's and Con's of Drupal and had to bite my tongue cause I had only just started on this resource. I've filled out a section called Why / Why not Drupal and discuss some of the other popular cms/lms's out there and say why you'd want to use Drupal or why you'd be better off using that technology. Obviously, it's a bit slanted towards Drupal since that's the path we've chosen but I've tried to be as objective as possible.
Down towards the latter chapters of the book I've made a section called Drupal @ Penn State, this is where you can get involved. If you're from Stanford and want a Drupal @ Stanford Chapter in the "book" or at Amherst (*cough ;) ) or anywhere else please just request an account on the site. You'll be given full outline designer / node access to modify the book to your liking. I've started laying out the way our @ e-Learning Institute part of the "book" will read so if you want an idea of the format I'm thinking of look there. There's also full commenting allowed throughout the site so if you'd rather just comment on something that was done on other pages or want to challenge my notions on things please feel free.
It is my hope that we can get together some use-cases as well as philosophy's of why different organizations have gone Drupal for work in the Educational sector. This could provide invaluable arguments for IT and administrators when it comes to having to justify their usage of Drupal. I'll be getting some more people locally on board with this and will be adding additional content as I can so any help any of you can give would be much appreciated. All levels of educational use of Drupal are welcome to join in (not just University though I probably flavor my arguments in that way) so pleeeease jump in and help where you can with the creation of this important resource.

Very cool. I'm giving a presentation in a few weeks to webmasters here at BYU on Drupal (some are still using static html. . .) so this will be a great resource to point out to them. Thanks!

Bravo!
Really a terrific resource in the making. Since we're a K12 school, we have different needs, but we are working towards a Drupal redesign of our current website. Perhaps in the future I'll be able to contribute something from our experience. Thanks, Brian!
Most of the school and
Most of the school and districts sites I'm working with are k-12 sites, so I'll be happy to help contribute to that part of the project, as it gets going. This promises to be a great resource.
That'd be great!
That'd be great because since I don't work in K-12 I can't really help shape the discussion in that way. I'm sure a lot of the sections can work for both but it would be nice if there was some content that was specifically "flavored" for K-12. I'm making announcements locally at Penn State through some contacts as well as on my project's blog so hopefully those will grapevine down to some k-12'ers as well cause I'd hate for this just to be a Higher-ed book.
