Using OpenPublish for a newspaper site and finding a UK host

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

I'm looking to set up a newspaper site using OpenPublish, the theme of the site is a user generated news site. I'm a bit confused on how to go about it and was looking for some help.
Firstly does anyone know of a good UK based host which supports OpenPublish installations? I'm looking for one with servers in the U.K.
Secondly the site I'm setting up will have a advertising revenue sharing program and was wondering if anyone knew if OpenPublish supports this - do I have to install other modules to get this to work?
Also, does anyone know how to get OpenPublish to display most recent news stories - this is a bit tricky as I ideally want recent news stories to be displayed which are highly ranked/shared and from trusted users.
Any advice?

I found a U.K. host and emailed them about the server setup and OpenPublish's system requirements.
This is the response I got:

"Yes except we dont run these

Can I still run OpenPublish on their servers even though they don't run PostgreSQL and SQLite?

You only need one of the databases so you should be fine with MySQL

Advertising and Most Recent News

You will need to add modules or use an API. I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to do, but this functionality is not available out of the box in Drupal.

You will need a view for your most recent stories and I recommend using a module like Fivestar to allow authenticated users to rate modules. You will then need to change your view to sort the stories by rating.

Does this help answer your questions?

We can host your site on our servers. Normally, our hosting service is for our clients only. It's an optimised server for Drupal with Memcache and APC.

You can add those functionalities easily. first, for letting people to write, you need to change registered users permission to let them write stories.

for showing recent news with ranking, you need to amend the recent news views and add fivestar rating module to it. it can be defined to show only recent news with 3 stars or more. rating can be done by certain users as well. users can have different rankings.

all in all, OpenPublish definitely has those functionalities. You just need to tweak it and change couple of things. not the easiest thing to do, but it can be done beautifully.

You will need a view for your most recent stories

Basically, what you need to do is go in and edit views for your articles. There will be a default views and various derivative views. Different views are used by different blocks. You may have to figure out exactly which version of the view you are using.

Then, you can adjust the parameters of the view. Basically, a view defines how to create a list of articles (or resources, or events, etc.). So you will want to adjust the parameters affecting the order in which those resources are displayed. You can sort them by user rating, date, weight, etc. You can also apply a filter to a view. This will allow you to select a subset of all articles.

It's a very powerful system but I haven't seen it really documented anywhere. If anyone knows of documentation, a link would be useful. Otherwise, you'll have to play with it by feel, as I have been doing.

Thanks for all the feedback -

Thanks for all the feedback - it's very helpful.
I have another question, I noticed that the default theme for OpenPublish has space for ads, does OP support the adsense module (http://drupal.org/project/adsense) to show ads in the same space as the default ads are in OP?

Since OpenPublish is built off of Drupal, you can use any module that vanilla Drupal uses.
