Authorize.net or other gateways for Ubercart

I have set up a few sites with authorize.net, but in each instance, the client has given me the keys/info, and I never dealt with the actual authorize.net net setup.

Can someone speak of his experience from a vendor's perspective as to what is really involved? I think you don't buy straight from auth.net but rather through a reseller-- how does one go about selecting "the right vendor?" What about costs? What other payment gateways have you used with Ubercart?

Thanks

I also have been in this position, my experience has been that you are connecting with a Bank if you are using a service like authorize. The vendor I think depends on the need, Paypal for anyone who doesn't move more than $500 per month on the low end, to Chase Bank tied to an Authorize account that allows for immediate credit card processing. I can't really speak to the fees involved however. In the end, my clients have all preferred Auth after all the set up hoops have been jumped through.

Hope this helps,

Zach

Here's a twist: Intuit IMS

Apparently this particular client has been wooed by his already existing Intuit/Quickbooks account manager into a pretty sweet deal of using Intuit as the reseller offering the authorize.net gateway-- and it's cheaper and sounds more straightforward (to him) than what authorize.net was telling him. If it's kosher to do so, I may share the details when I learn them.

Thanks for your input.

It's both

Bronius,
I'm making the final touches I hope on my ubercart/Authorize.net web site. To answer your question Authorize.net acts as both a gateway and a processor/Merchant account provider (if that's what it's called). With a previous business I owned I used the full package from Authorize.net. I didn't use it very often and took advantage of their "virtual terminal". However with my new business I had a harder time finding someone to give me a merchant account.. once I did this I then ended up having them set me up with Authorize.net as the gateway since it seemed to be one of the easiest to integrate into Ubercart. However, don't hold me to that. With the lack of good documentation I feel like I'm pushing my luck some times... or just blindly stepping off a cliff. I'm ready to open my online store but .... I wish it was a little more straight forward. Oh well... going off on a tangent. Just wanted to tell you that Authorize.net can provide you with a merchant account based on your business type and if they're okay with it. Or they sell they're gateway service to another merchant account provider and you pay a little extra for it from them.

Good luck
Z
