This group is where users and developers of the Knight sponsored Open Media Project share information, discussions, and documentation. The Open Media Project is both a suite of modules based on the system developed by Denver Open Media and the group of 7 development partners who are contributing development, testing, documentation, training or other resources to make the Open Media modules more usable for both the PEG and Drupal communities.
The primary goal of the Open Media Project is to leverage Drupal to give local communities more control over their public access channel. The system will build on several existing modules and maintain the suite of new modules through Drupal's CVS. This is a different approach than most of the previous investments the PEG community has made in Drupal. We are also committed to developing modules that are flexible enough for a variety of uses beyond public access channels.
Current Custom Modules: Open Media Project, Open Media Show, Open Media Airing, Open Media Playback Servers, Open Media Timeslot Scheduler, Open Media Support, Internet Archive and MERCI.

Here is a working list of channelAustin's content types for MERCI. There are about 150 here. We have about 20 certifications. So we'll quickly get into a fairly complicated permissions grid.

OMP Roles
I'm looking at the DOM site and I see about 20 different roles. Some are obvious, like "intern". What's "cc override"? Is that creative commons override? What about "site monitor"?
I'm also noticing that you only have two roles for certifications: "field certification" and "studio certification". I'm guessing this is because at DOM you only have those two major types of certification. At channelAustin we have quite a few more than that.
I'm wondering what other sites have done with roles. How many and which ones being set up at BAVC?

Issue with Admin Menu and default Drupal admin UI
In the 2.x branch of the modules, we've added a number of admin level configuration options. We've also added a permission level to manage each feature set without having to grant admin access. To streamline the UI, we've added Manage Equipment and Manage Scheduling sections to the /admin and well as a section for Open Media System. This structure translates well for sites using the Admin Menu module and saves us time writing UI for managing different parts of the system.

Open Media not working well
I was looking for a theme to use on a web and I found TVframe theme, but it did not look right. I found out that I had to use it with Open Media, I had a hard time installing, I got warnings and time outs all over the place, and when I finally got to fix all those issues, I get an empty page, I have been trying out some things but I do note get how to configure blocks and menus so it looks as the demo page. What do I have to do?

Updating Documenation for 2.x Versions of Modules
All of the Open Media modules now have dev snapshots of the 2.x branches. New features are being added to these branches for BAVC so these are still very much in development and should not be used until they become the supported version. While we wanted a way to update the documentation so it is useful to BAVC's staff in April and DOM's staff after that, we didn't want to confuse 1.x users.
I think we've come up with a slick way to highlight the 2.x documentation so it can easily be merged when the 2.x modules are finished.

Similarly, /admin/build/modules shows channelAustin has 6.x-1.1, but again I'm assuming this is an incorrect pre-release version numbering.
Looks like there are 4 releases of OM Project since this was installed here.
Similar question: should we upgrade? Issues & concerns with that?
Also, I notice in the /modules/om_project/install/
is a file called stingoverride_import.txt
that should be stringoverride_import.txt, correct?
Read moreOM Broadcast Sync Versions and Upgrades
on /admin/build/modules it shows that channelAustin has Version 6.x-1.1 of OM Broadcast Syncronization, but I look at http://drupal.org/node/374090/release i see the latest version is Version 6.x-1.0
I'm assuming that the om_broadcast_sync version we have at channelAustin is a pre-release one with on inaccurate version number.
Should we upgrade to om_broadcast_sync 6.x-1.0?
Any issues, warnings, concerns to note?

Media Mover Version and Upgrades
On the Module page /admin/build/modules it doesn't show which version of Media Mover we have installed at channelAustin.
And when I look at media_mover_api.info, I get this:
; $Id: media_mover_api.info,v 1.1.2.1.2.2 2008/10/02 23:34:41 arthuregg Exp $
name = Media Mover API
description = Core of the Media Mover system
package = "Media Mover"
core = 6.x
php = 5.0

And when I look at media_mover_api.install, I see:
/* $Id: media_mover_api.install,v 1.1.2.16.2.4 2008/11/18 19:27:16 arthuregg Exp $ */

After looking at what Jack Brighton has been doing with FieldFrame in Expression Engine (which AFAICT is really similar to Drupal's CCK), hearing BAVC's desire to stick with PBCore, and knowing that CPB is actively working on requirements for PBCore 2.0, I took another look a PBCore. What I found was that most of the terms the beta stations wanted to include in a new standard were really similar to an existing PBCore term.
Read moreProviding the Open Media System
The following outlines a plan to make improvements to the Open Media profile and create a comprehensive guide to developing, implementing, and providing the Open Media platform. We will do this by capturing and creating training opportunities from the open development of the platform on actual stations. This is a work in progress, so additions, revisions, and suggestions are very much encouraged.

At BAVC we are introducing a new piece to the standard Open Media configuration. Similar to using an external box as the FFMPEG encoder that accepts encoding instructions from the webserver using a simple encode.php file, we are going to execute the mv and cp commands for managing files to a Samba Server. That server will be on BAVC's internal network while the website will be hosted at Media Temple (mt).

I'm in the tail end of integrating our OMP install with our Cablecast Server. In light of the conversation about this on IRC and the recent release of the new Cablecast API I'd like to let you all know where things currently lie on our end.

It's taken longer than we hoped to get to this point, but the #drupal-openmedia IRC channel is now an active community of Drupal developers from several stations helping each other out. This conversation between emilyf and raytiley made my week...

Our omnicon bot has been having some issues with multiple sessions, but the IRC channel is being logged here...

Tightrope has recently announced their commitment to Open Source Software by releasing several company intiatives as open source. So we're this close to an alpha for the Media module (for d7). There are only a few outstanding critical alpha-blocking issues that need to be resolved. I'd hoped to have it today, but it looks like it'll probably be Monday.
Next week is the time for you to jump in if you're interested in developing for the project! It's been loads of fun, from the initial discussions and plans over a year ago with arthurf, dopry, drewish, Roger López, myself and others, to fantastic core Drupal 7 integration of stream wrappers by pwolanin and GSOC student jmstacey, to some powerhouse #d7ux magic by mverbaar and Jody Lynn, to the latest overhaul introducing Media fieldable entities (with an eye for core Drupal 8) and WYSIWYG integration by JacobSingh and dipen chaudhary, with some potential upcoming fine-tuning from jQuery guru dmitrig01.
If you're interested, join us in IRC at #drupal-media. After giving the module a spin (you'll need Drupal 7 Alpha 1, Media, Styles, and WYSIWYG + CKEditor, and optionally Media: Flickr and/or Media: YouTube), you should subscribe to the Issue queue. (You can also see recent screenshots at AaronWinborn.com.)
