OpenScholar

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.
This group should probably have more organizers. See documentation on this recommendation.

OpenScholar represents a paradigm shift in how the personal academic and research web sites are created and maintained. Built on the open-source framework Drupal, OpenScholar makes it possible to create academic web sites in a matter of seconds. Each web site comes with a suite of powerful tools from which users can facilitate the creation, distribution, and preservation of knowledge faster and more efficiently than ever before.
OpenScholar allows users to create genuine, feature-rich web sites on the fly in seconds and is designed to host an unlimited number of web sites in a single installation.

db upgrade problem solved, but user-vsites no longer accessible in the successfully (no errors reported) upgraded site

First- in case anyone else encoutners similar experiences with failures in updating a b10 installation to b11 and later, there are apparently TWO releases for b10 - the first b10 released in Feb 28 2011 and a second b10 released in Apr 22 2011. Not aware of the second b10 release, I was attempting to upgrade the first b10 to b11 and later. After upgrading b10 (Feb 28) to b10-1 (Apr 22), I am able to upgrade to b11 and later without the major errors and upgrade-aborts I've been experiencing. (a great relief!)

upgrade to openscholar beta13

Hello,

After upgrade the openscholar beta12 to openscholar beta13 the message below started to show. Somebody know what can be happening? This message only appears when I enable the vsite_activity block. During the upgrade proccess no error messages appeared.

user warning: Duplicate entry '' for key 'name' query: INSERT INTO users (created) VALUES (1321443132) in /openscholar2beta13/modules/user/user.module on line 328.

attempted upgrade to b13 "aborts prematurely"

I attempted to upgrade b10 again (to b13 this time) by:

1) downloading b13 in a new directory
2) copying over /sites/default/settings.php from b10 installation
3) reconfiguring settings.php to use a copy of the b10 database
4) copying over /sites/default/files from b10 installation
5) running /update.php - which reported the process was aborted prematurely:

Drupal database update
warning: reset() expects parameter 1 to be array, null given in /Library/WebServer/websites/openscholar_2.0-BETA13/update.php on line 313.

Bugs mainly in I10n(locale)

I'm chinese, when using openscholar, I can't translate some english words in openscholar into chinese. Some lines of code lake the drupal's t() funtion.

I added the t() funtion and they work fine now. see below:

sites/all/themes/openscholar/scholar_base/templates/page.tpl.php

        $login_link = theme('vsite_login_link',t("Log in"),array('class' => 'footer-login'));

Single website for openscholar?

Hi,

we would like to use openscholar for our lab's webpage and we want just a single web-page. Hence the question: if our website URL is kobi.de how can we unsure that browser front page is kobi.de/kobi (the actual website), instead of showing kobi.de/welcome, which lists all available websites? Since we have just one, it is redundant and looks silly. We've found an option to change the front page, which is by default "welcome", but it is read only (we use beta 12). What is the standard work around for this? Should we wait for beta 13?

Cheers,
Sasha Pastukhov

openScholar sites restriction from LDAP groups.

Hello,

I successfully installed openScholar with ldap authentication enabled and all our ldap groups are mapped to drupal roles (ldap_integration and extended_ldap_groups modules).
Now I have a few dozens ldap groups as drupal roles and I'd like to allow access to openScholar sites to selected groups.

For instance, a teacher creates a new site for his course. He wants to allow access to the site only to students registered to his course (these students are members of the ldap group for this course).

Wassup with Widgets (Boxes?)

having a look around the Redmine I noticed the latest release v12 starts to implement UI "Widgets" using Boxes and that there is a major task for creating a new Widget Infrastructure in v13

the OpenScholar approach is pretty revolutionary in Drupal-land and I am wondering what the impact will be of the Widget(Boxes) infrastructure?

https://redmine.hmdc.harvard.edu/issues/67

lets face it, Blocks suck and need to go
Context UI is too abstract

GO Widgets !

Adding a New Users to Another Users OpenScholar Site-Roles Issue

Hi All,

We are testing the "Add a New User to your Site" feature in OpenScholar and we are having a user role issue. Whenever some adds a person that does not already have a site, it creates the user in OpenScholar and gives them all the roles (including OpenScholar Admin) that are available on Openscholar. We want to limit that new user to only have access to the user's site and to edit through the green boxes (not the control panel), not have the ability to edit any site on OpenScholar.

Thanks in advance for any help.

IE8 JS error - can't load control panel functions, 'features > customize'. Anyone else?

Have just run up against a problem in IE8 when testing the "Features > customize" functions in the Scholar Site control panel.

IE8 generates an error and does not render the customization panel. It just spins until you cancel. All the other functions seem okay up to this point.

  • To test the problem I created a clean install of OpenScholar with a clean database.
  • All the enabled modules are from the standard install except for the following:
    --- OpenScholar LDAP (activated)
--- LDAP Integration (installed to /sites/all/modules/contrib/ and activated)

Can you pre-select the domain that will be used for a virtual site?

Hi there.

We're investigating using Open Scholar for teacher web sites, ut we'd prefer to control the domains that are created rather than have them create their own.

Is there a way to force a domain on them based on the userid they've used to log in?

Example, the userid: "MyUserName" would generate the domain, "OpenScholarInstall.ca/MyUserName"

They would be using LDAP to log in, so the userids shouldn't be duplicated.

Thanks in advance.
MHK

Can't get LDAP authentication to work

Hi - (sorry for the cross post of this message ie: http://groups.drupal.org/node/172894#comment-584679).

We're trying to get the LDAP function working but so far without success. We've got another site using the ldap authentication module and it works like a charm. For some reason on open scholar it just will not recognize the ldap restriction.

  • We've tried a fresh install of the site and database to ensure the default settings are in place.

I attempted to update from b10 to b12 by:

"Call to a member function get_url() on a non-object" error preventing some pages from being displayed

We are having an issue (in b10) where numerous user content/pages are no longer being displayed anywhere except the Control Panel content listing. It appears like a problem with the vsite_taxonomy module because the following error is being logged when attempting to load the "missing" pages:

"PHP Fatal error: Call to a member function get_url() on a non-object in WEB_ROOT/sites/all/modules/openscholar_vsite/vsite_taxonomy/vsite_taxonomy.module on line 1100, referer: http://WEBSERVER/USER/cp/content"

Public / Private / Disabled

I was wondering how you accomplished the overriding of the Features form to allow for public / private options PER feature. Is this effectively forcing someone to be an authenticated user of role xyz when accessing a private feature or is it locking who can access that feature just to admins / a certain permission? Was hoping you could point me in the right direction before I dig through a lot of code in search of it / try to generate a solution on my own. Even pointing in the right direction would help. thanks!

Preview of images don't work until you log in

Hi,

I updated all modules that openscholar uses and install it in a new virtualhost.

Everything works well now except that the preview of images is not working, at least while you're not logged in as admin, then they start to show up, even if you log out.
The settings/file configuration is set to Download method: private
Anyone have any idea of what's going on or had the same problem in the past?

Thanks!
JL

How can I restrict access based on LDAP Groups?

I found in OS-LDAP settings: "PHP to filter users based on their LDAP data:" That seem to be exactly what I am looking for, since I just want our techer to be able to login.
I dont want to risk, that "bad PHP code here will break my site". If I have a LDAP usergroup xxx and another xxy an perhaps think about adding another group xxz how must the entry be to disallow one group to login or to create sites but allow the other to do so.
best
Steffen
