OpenScholar

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.
This group should probably have more organizers. See documentation on this recommendation.

OpenScholar represents a paradigm shift in how the personal academic and research web sites are created and maintained. Built on the open-source framework Drupal, OpenScholar makes it possible to create academic web sites in a matter of seconds. Each web site comes with a suite of powerful tools from which users can facilitate the creation, distribution, and preservation of knowledge faster and more efficiently than ever before.
OpenScholar allows users to create genuine, feature-rich web sites on the fly in seconds and is designed to host an unlimited number of web sites in a single installation.

Github + redmine

After some discussions we decided to host OS code in github (https://github.com/openscholar).
Also, we switched to redmine as our project management tool. We are just testing it out and currently is not open for everyone to sign in. And this is a high level overview of what we are working on https://redmine.hmdc.harvard.edu/projects/openscholar/issues/gantt
Please let us know if you have any question, suggestions etc.

thanks,
Ferdi

Can book outline administration be restricted to within each vsite?

The Books settings page at admin/content/book/settings states that "Users with the administer book outlines permission can add all content types." This is a great feature allowing for users easily group content within their vsite, but it appears to be circumventing the vsite mechanism.

Harvard Sields

I am running the latest version of OpenScholar, but I am having problems with the Harvard Shield not showing up on individual sites/themes. The URL for the graphic on the individual pages is:

http://mysite.mysite.edu/sites/all/modules/openscholar_vsite/vsite_desig...

But the graphic is actually located here:

http://mysite.mysite.edu/MYSITE/sites/all/modules/openscholar_vsite/vsit...

It's like the base.url isn't being recognized, but everything is properly set up in htaccess. Any thoughts?

does nodeformscols_field_placements override groups and fieldsets?

I've written a custom module similar to the presentations module for use with an experimental OS installation and am having difficulty with the grouping of fields into fieldsets for the input form. When loaded as a standard CCK module, the module fields appear grouped in the input form as defined. In OS however, the grouping of fields (using the CCK fields UI) forces them into the "+Advanced Options" fieldset, which is collapsed by default - effectively hiding the fields.

Separate background for directory page

I would like to have a different background for the member directory page (mysite.com/website). Is there an easy way to do this? As it is, the background image from the welcome page also displays on the member directory page. I would like the /website page to have a white background.

Thanks,
Rob

Openscholar and LDAP servers

OpenScholar comes with integration with LDAP authentication servers out of the box. Site Administrators simply need to enable the LDAP Integration module, and then fill the settings for their LDAP authentication server on the appropriate admin page.

To facilitate LDAP integration, we have written the Openscholar LDAP module, which prevents anonymous users from creating a site. This module can be found at https://github.com/openscholar/openscholar_ldap and will be included in a future release of OpenScholar. This module offers no configuration options.

shared user tables between existing drupal site and OpenScholar?

Hi all,

I have built/ am building a community site aimed at a specific target audience with two options for membership. First one is free, i.e. the authenticated user and the second one is paid for. I would like to make use of OpenScholar for the paying members to create their own web site with the possibility of publishing their bio, resume, publications, etcetera, and am wondering whether it is possible to share the user tables and other relevant tables between both sites, so that the paying members automatically are granted access to the OpenScholar site.

Anyone any suggestions?

Is there any way of making OpenScholar create a new user's website right after adding a new user? I'm talking about admin-only registration mode.

When will the openScholar new version with Drupal 7 be released?

Hi All,

Ferdi told me this openScholar program at drupal meeting last year at Harvard, thank you very much Ferdi, we are excited with this openScholar program. We are building our new website with openScholar now. We wish to find out the information about the above question. I have searched the whole Web and attended all seminars given by the great openScholar team, but no information about this question found. Now we are wondering that if we should finish our new website with the current openScholar version or wait for the openScholar new version with Drupal 7 be released.

This might not be an appropriate place to post this. I have isolated modules that give warning messages and have no idea how to get rid of them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

OpenScholar Installation

This is a work in progress, please feel free to add to it. More Wiki Pages to come when I have time, and hopefully some will find it useful or change where the wiki needs changing

  • Hello!
  • I applaud the idea of help with OpenScholar installation - but I don't find it here in this work-in-progress that has made no progress!
  • Sorry - but lots more information is wanted here. Doesn't the install script do this itself? If not, why not?

Will there be an install profile for departments?

First of all, kudos to the IQSS Team at Harvard for such an amazing Product!
My concern: I read somewhere on the internets (don't remember where) that an install profile for university departments is in the making and that it will probably be released in autumn 2010. Is any of this correct?

I ask, because I'm evaluating OpenScholar for the website of a university affiliated research institute. The current install profiles don't seem to lend themselves well to such an endeavour because of all the vsite stuff that comes along with it.

    Courses and Ubercart

    Hello,

I am looking at the OpenScholar as a good basis to a project I am working on - registration (via Ubercart payment) to courses.
I see that OpenScholar has a Class feature (but without scheduling) and an Event feature (without recurring).

Does anybody has experience with similar requirements ?

    Regards,
    Shushu
