Drupal and Project Management Systems outline and discussion
For today's BDUG (Berkeley Drupal User Group) meetup we had an open discussion about project management methodologies and tools, and layed out a basic plan for what a full featured project management system might look like in Drupal. I know many Drupal development shops each have their own tools for this, many developed internally on Drupal for specific needs.
This document is an initial rough outline, so feel free to suggest changes or other ideas for it.
Here is the wiki page:

Read moreCCK + Views issue tracking
I have read in several different discussions about the possibility of building a fairly feature-full issue tracking system with just stock cck and views. Several people have claimed to have done this, but I haven't seen any documentation, or exported views or anything like that. I think I can probably put something together, but I wanted to know if anybody has any examples or documentation available.
Thanks,
Max

What do you think about it ? Did you find it interesting ? Any more suggestions ?

I was pleased to read how a senior programmer can think : http://www.palantir.net/blog/3-years-drupal-love
But how to encourgage this behavior to write good and re-usable code ?
Alistair Cockburn, one of the father of agile software methodology, and he author of a book that I am currently reading often describe programming as a cooperative game and also as to write poetry. That make me think about a new bonus rule for some drupal projects I am working on (around 100 man-days projects with team of three developers and short delays) :

It is common to make a list of contributed modules that we are thinking to use before starting a drupal project. That is ok.
What is bad for the project (except on a small project maybe), is to install your drupal environment with all this modules at once.
Why ?
There are many reasons that can be invoked. In one word, the main reason is : Agility ! Build your project step by step. Release often and install the necessary modules only when they are needed for your next release.

STORM
Just saw this in contributions:
http://drupal.org/project/storm
STORM (SpeedTech Organization and Resource Manager) is a project management application for Drupal.
It provides the following features :
* Attributes : to manage the different list of values used in STORM, like : tasks status, countries, currencies and so on
* Organizations : the companies or individual stakeholders of your projects
* Projects : your projects. Every project can have multiple tasks hierarchically nested to build a WBS
* Tasks : the parts that compose a project

Node types:
* User (not nessessarily a node, actually)
* Project (A container for all project activity, i'd like OG)
* Milestone (basically just a date with explanation and title)
* Task (may be referrenced to a milestone and to a user. organized by taxonomy)
* Discussion (a thread, organized by taxonomy, may be referrenced to a milestone)
* Whiteboard (yay! a whiteboard to draw fancy thingies)
* Resource (the project manager can provide/set a resource (eg time or money or whatever), which the active staff can use, may be referrenced to a milestone)

Hi,
I just joined this group but have been reading your posts for a couple weeks. I am relatively new to Drupal, used it for about 2 months but have been reading and testing every day.
I setup a knowledge base system for my workplace where people collaborate on document creation and editing. So far so good.
I've read about project management with Drupal, thanks for all the info by the way. However, what I'm really looking for is not a whole PM tool but rather just enough modules to enable an IT Change Control process.
Read moreCase Tracker, Services and Timesheets
I like Case Tracker because it is Drupal. It has some weirdities, but otherwise it's a good baseline and I've extended it pretty easily with cck and views and it's really starting to hum. So I thought it was time to share where I'm at with Case Tracker.
I tried Organic Groups integration with Case Tracker in an earlier trial (my current support site is the 4th and final attempt). I have a client node-type and I use the CCK node reference module to link projects to clients. I then have half a module worth of glue code to improve navigation and usability.
Read moreCase studies of managing projects in Drupal - (especially non-software projects)
Why not documenting some Generic PM case studies with Drupal?
The field of GENERIC (Non-Software) project management is exploding, with some fields like Project Management Offices (PMO), Portfolio Management, PM Methodologies and Projectized driven organizations.
Combining the creativity in this Drupal community to generic PM lends itself to some interesting and even profitable services.
I am "ploughing with someone's elses horses" but I just read about this case study and thought it a good start to this type of discussion to generate some ideas, tips and tricks.
Seeking Resource Planning solutions
Hey there - I'm looking forward to posting the results of my current research project - resource planning software and solutions. We've grown tremendously at CivicActions over the last year or so, and despite a threatening economy, we expect to continue growing. This means managing dozens of project contributors across dozens of projects with shifting deadlines, scope, etc.. Complicating this is the fact that lots of project contributors wear or can wear multiple "hats" - a themer might also do configuration, eg. Or a PM who can do visual design.

Anyone know how to contact Mike Booth? He's a regular attender at our Boston meetings and I want to talk to him about this post. He said he's seriously thinking about helping with either Drupal Project or a non-software oriented, Drupal-based project management capability.
Anyone else interested in working on this? I'd love to see how quickly we could get some traction around this.
