Update on England & Wales association

Hi Drupal Scotland,

I thought I'd just reach out to you and make sure that you're aware of an initiative to better organise the Drupal communities in England & Wales.

To be clear: we're not trying to step on any toes, and although we fully hope that we can work together with Drupal Scotland, we really don't want to take it over etc.

You can read the full post here: http://groups.drupal.org/node/285888

I could use a wee bit of help please

Experienced in PHP but new to Drupal so please be gentle with me.

Very small Drupal site, hosted on my own beefy Linux server, and everything seems to work swimmingly. That is ... until I get lengthy (15-20 seconds) and seemingly random delays on clicking a link which would normally respond almost instantly.

I don't think it is network-related; I have 20Mbit service from Zen and this is solid as a rock.

The watchdog table has some entries for "Attempting to re-run cron while it is already running" ... dozens rather than thousands though.

Any pointers greatly appreciated,

Drupal Sprint Weekend March 9, 2013 and March 10, 2013

Is there any interest in holding a sprint session for core Drupal 8 in Scotland?

http://groups.drupal.org/node/277768

Everyone is welcome; if you have built a site in Drupal, you can contribute. We will split into pairs and work on Drupal core issues. Bring your laptop. If possible, install git before coming and git clone Drupal 8 core. For new folks: you can get a head start also by making an account on Drupal.org and taking a look at the Drupal Ladder

Private Fields for nodes/entities

Has anyone come across a module that gives content editors an option make certain fields private?

There is a http://drupal.org/project/user_field_privacy module that has exactly the UI needed, but can only be applied to fields in user entities, and I'm looking for something that can be applied to custom bundles ('Content types' - essentially nodes).

D7 advanced forum performance on shared hosting

I've been having serious performance issues with D7 on a shared host.

I've searched around and read loads of articles and opinions about this but at this stage I've got myself in a muddle and I'm not sure what to do next, hence the call for help.

I'm hosting a fairly complicated site on 5quid host in Edinburgh. They do not have any opcode cache, no memcache and no varnish. Since this is shared hosting I don't have the option of adding these things.

Scots Gaelic Translation Website

I have created a website at: http://live.gaelic-translation.gotpantheon.com/.

Pantheon (https://www.getpantheon.com/) have very kindly offered to sponsor the initiative with the offer of hosting of the site.

If you have the ability to offer translations, please get in touch or go to the site and create a user account.

Once you have an account on the site, you need 2 things:

<

ol>

  • to get a unique API key from http://localize.drupal.org that will allow you to send translations to the remote server

    User dashboard region

I have an idea and Im not sure if its possible with existing modules or if I could create something to do what Im looking for.

    The challenge:

Im looking for functionality much like the homebox where a user can choose from pre defined blocks and build up a dashboard, but heres where it gets interesting, I would like to integrate this into a User specific menu where a user can add remove and move around the blocks in a region like say the second sidebar and this user menu would be on every page as they browse the site.

Any Thoughts on Impact of Cookie Law on Analytics

Lost in a whirl of DrupalCamp last week, I almost missed the new UK cookie compliance law grace period expiring, which means we have to comply with The Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) (Amendment) Regulations 2011 from 26 May 2012.
