Semantic Web

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.
This group should probably have more organizers. See documentation on this recommendation.

Welcome to the Semantic Web group in Drupal. This group was started at DrupalCon Barcelona 2007 and includes discussions on how to integrate the Semantic Web technologies into Drupal and list the various effort of the community towards enabling RDF in Drupal. Drupal 7 comes with native RDFa support in core. If you want extra RDF capabilities such as other serialization formats and SPARQL support, checkout the RDF Extensions, SPARQL and SPARQL Views contributed projects. If you need support or have found a bug in one of the fore mentioned projects, please file a ticket in their issue tracker (block on the right on each project page).

Drupal, The Semantic Web and Genealogy

Hello all,
I would like to develop a genealogy application in Drupal. I wanted to see what has already been done specifically as it relates to using the Semantic Web. I know there are some genealogy modules but I'm interested in this from a Semantic Web perspective. I know that Drupal 7 supports RDFa out of the box, as it were. However, for Genealogy there are two specific vocabularies (at least) that one would want to use for Genealogy, that being BIO for biographic information and it has a focus around events in one's life. It is defined here:

Summary of 14th June 2011 Linked Data discussion

We discussed the user interface for mapping fields to RDF terms. Currently, it requires Evoc for autocomplete functionality, but Evoc only works if the external vocabulary is published correctly.

Proposal: Drupal 7 RDFa markup testbench for search engines

The launch of schema.org got me thinking about how we could help the major search engines to extract the bits of information they care about from Drupal 7 pages. They will try to follow the spec of whatever format they are parsing, but there will be bugs, and we should be able to detect these bugs easily so they can be fixed. From a search engine perspective, it is hard to know how to work with Drupal pages without knowing much about the internals of Drupal and the kind of information they output.

Next Bi-Weekly Linked Data code sprint

Start:
2011-06-14 09:00 - 10:30 America/New_York
Event type:
Online meeting (eg. IRC meeting)

We've made a lot of progress since last week's discussion! We've wrapped up two big issues, enabling non-RDFa serializations and content negotiation and providing a mapping overview, plus a number of related (and unrelated) bugs. And scor is rolling a new release as I type! ...or at least in the very near future :)

So it's coming up on time for the next one.

Schedule:
Every other Tuesday

9-11am Eastern Daylight Time
3-5pm Central European Summer Time
8-10pm Indochina Time

Reference a Field within a Node?

I am creating a dictionary/vocabulary sharing site and I want to connect a Word's definitions (cck fields) to translations. I can connect it with a translation content type with a Node_reference field back to Word, but any ideas on how to connect to a specific field within a node?

Freebase Reference Field Module

Based on the comments in http://groups.drupal.org/node/152939 I made a draft implementation of what I was considering as a 'semantic form widget' using Freebase's 'suggest' widget.

Module code is available here: http://github.com/adorsk-whoi/fb_reference

Details

The module defines a 'Freebase Reference' field type which can be used to reference freebase topics via Freebase's suggest widget.

Schema.org

Looks like there is a lot of support for the schema definitions that can be found on http://schema.org

Should we be trying to bring our standards in line with these?

Semantic Forms in Drupal: Making the Semantic Web Usable

Are there any current initiatives for semantic forms in Drupal?

A more detailed explanation

'Semantic Forms' is somewhat vague, so let me clarify.

When I say 'semantic form', I'm talking about a form that would make it easy for people to use semantic identifiers as values in form fields.

Ideally I would like to make it possible for normal people to select terms from a list of human-readable labels, and then save the machine-readable identifiers which correspond to those labels.

Summary of 31st May 2011 Linked Data discussion

Here are my notes on the 31st of May 2011 bi-weekly linked data code sprint

Participants: linclark, scor, milesw, cwells73, ronald_istos

The issues discussed were:

A. http://drupal.org/node/1106484 - Provide overview of all mappings for all bundles

Everyone agreed that an overview was a useful step and that it could be divided into:
a. Providing an overview for information only purposes
b. Evolving that to a more generic RDF UI mapping tool (http://drupal.org/node/1159104) that will replaced the existing UI(s) that are dispersed throughout the Drupal interface

Learning Objects

Hi, i must say that i'm new to drupal...
I have a project to make and i'm not quit shure where to start:D
It's about a drupal site for educators to promote the use of IT ,one of the things to make is to deffine a Learning Objects with methadata in Repository, and then deffine an ontology to classificate those objects...on the client side i should make a search possibility to this objects...
So first i was thinking to use Fedora repository or DOR, but is it possible to do it only with RDFx, SPARQL and maybe some other module?
I hope i'm not making a stupid question, and waist your time.

Hi, Can u please help me..

1) Need to do drag and drop of images
2) While droping the image, instead of image we need to show 30 radio button
3) Closet spacing horizontally or vertically should be dragged to the canvas.
4) Once it is dragged, it should be able to move across the canvas (no rotation or scaling)
5) Numbering should require for all choices. You can create numbering using button elements

Thanks & Regards

RDF annotation

Hi, guys

I want to develop a GUI tool for RDF annotation. The target is a) provide an efficient GUI for tagging b) tags can automatically be translated and stored as RDF. and i will use my own personal knowledge ontology.

But i found that nodes use rdf mapping to output data as RDFa which makes RDF not expandable for an existence node.

Any ideas to solve this problem?

Thanks.

Recent articles and latest developments of RDF in Drupal 7 (May 2011)

The last few weeks have been pretty eventful for the semantic web in Drupal.

Lin Clark and I wrote a couple of articles for the IBM developerWorks explaining what it is possible to achieve with Drupal 7 and the recent developments in core and contrib. They are pretty detailed and will be useful materials for newbies willing to learn how to use the Semantic Web technologies in Drupal 7:

2011-06-03 15:30 - 2011-06-05 15:00 Europe/Berlin
Organizers:
Event type:
Related event (ie. not Drupal specific)

I would like to invite you to join us for the upcoming Federated Social Web Summit 2011 - June 3-5 20 in Berlin
http://d-cent.org/fsw2011/

Goals and Scope: This workshop intends to bring together communities building federated social networking code-bases with those involved in privacy and identity. It will be the second conference, following up on the original Federated Social Web Summit in Portland in 2010, but now with a focus on privacy protection in the social web and the cloud. As it is a W3C Workshop, it will have one day for position papers and discussion. To continue the tradition of the Federated Social Web Summit in Portland in 2010 and attract more developers, the summit will also have a open-space, including opportunities for collaborative coding and open talks, for an entire day. [*]

And also consider joining W3C Federated Social Web Incubator Group (soon changing into community group)

About RDF publishing of a single page

I am doing a small lab website using D7.

And if I make a content type and some instances of that, there are 4 small menu tabs on the top of the instance such as View, Edit, RDF, Outline.

And if I click the REF button I can download a RDF file with respect to this page.

But in the RDF file I could only find general data, such as dc:title, dc:creator and so on.

I couldn't see the RDF mapping data about fields. I already mapped fields with RDF vocabularies.

So, what can I do if I want to see my field mapping data in RDF file?

Two attachments about a jpg and a RDF file.

RDF code sprint in Boston May 7th/8th

Start:
2011-05-07 10:00 - 2011-05-08 17:00 America/New_York
Event type:
Sprint

The RDF module in Drupal 7 core is a good starter solution for publishing RDFa, but there is so much more to be done with RDF and SPARQL. I'm organizing a small code sprint in the Boston/Cambridge area to gather the local Boston developers interested in bringing the semantic web capabilities of Drupal further. We'll be tackling mostly the issue queues of the RDF and SPARQL modules, plus any other modules you might be interested to integrate with RDF.

URIs for Drupal content?

Are there any guidelines/best practices for assigning URIs for Drupal Linked Data?

I've got the various modules publishing RDF just fine, and can get RDF from URIs like http://hostname/node/xyz/rdf, but this sort of URI is really an implementation detail, and therefore not in the spirit of linked data URIs. It would seem to be much more appropriate to have URIs that might read something like http://hostname/content-type/title.

I've tried using Pathauto, which rewrites the URLs well-enough, but doesn't provide the RDF as expected.
