Drupal Association Board Elections

Hello Everyone,

The Drupal Association (international) has two board director positions called "at large" which are filled with community-elected candidates. Voting is open right now (until 18 March), so please go vote.

Set some time aside to read the profiles. I opened the ones of interest in tabs in my browser, then read the profiles and ordered the tabs with my first choice on the right. That made it easier to rank them when filling in the voting. In all it took me about an hour and a half.

Some of my personal criteria were competence, Libre/Open Source conviction, ability to communicate well, history with open source and Drupal and code contribution.

Kind regards,
Riaan

Best working areas

Hi everybody, I'm a Drupal developer for about 6/7 years now and I'm planning on moving to Capetown very soon. I was wondering if I could get anybody's advice on the best places for fast internet. (Residential and Commercial)

I know where I've worked from in the past, it's been the difference of night and day depending on the little pockets of a particularly city that are wired with better connections.

Is there any decent way to research this before my move? I've looked at the coverage charts for the internet providers but I'm not sure if those are really trustworthy.

SA Drupal freelancers

I'd like to identify some Drupal freelancers in SA to work with. We all max out our bandwidth sometimes and it would be cool to be able to hand off specific pieces of a build to reliable people.

So, all over the world the Drupal community is organising Drupal 8 Release Parties.

Is there already one in your country? If not? Why not get together with a few likeminded Drupal people and talk Drupal 8, no matter where you are.

If you do organise something, there are some instructions that can help you make your party more visible in this group:

DASA Governing Board 2016

Thank you to Everyone who voted!

This was the best turnout yet!

I'm proud to present to you, your governing board of 2016:

  • Jason
  • Riaan
  • Johan
  • Greg
  • Lee
  • Renate
  • Inky

We're doing better on gender quality than last year, though there's space to do even better. It's still pretty lilly white, which we need to put some decent work into. Cape Town is super well represented and with the amazing success that was their camp as well as interesting better-attended meet-ups, very strong now.

We still have great input from previous years' board members and several people that don't stand for board seats but volunteer their time and labour regularly; So if you want to get involved in the DASA work, please remember, the DASA meetings are open to all. The board is a formality that we need, to have an NPO.

Kind regards,
Riaan

A note on why we vote on GDoSA and not using some other system:
