Feasibility of the Average American Church Running a Website

I'm pulling mfer's comment out of a discussion to start a new one so it doesn't get lost. (I think part of the answer is us answering the question!)

Cost of Consulting?

What are the costs of Drupal consulting, please?

I am building the technology budget for the coming year and want to try to include something for Drupal consulting.

We expect to receive approval to change our church name this Wednesday and so I will need to port over to the new URL and during that time update Drupal, PhP, SQL, etc.

I need someone to assist with doing the transition right and in getting several new features working, roughly in this order of priority:

Linked calendars (master & sub-ministry calendars)
Distributed web area updating by ministry leaders

Group redesign for Churches Group

As you have, no doubt, noticed, this group just adopted a new look. I took advantage of the new panels capabilities to create a number of tabs. This will hopefully help us make even better use of this space. I took some lessons from Drupal Dojo and Drupal in Education (which I did).

Look forward to hearing what you think and how to continue making this group more effective.

Video Hosting - GodTube, YouTube, & Others?

EDIT 2:

While I await good counsel here re. the best way to manage the upload and download of video in Drupal I think that I can hard-code HTML to link to videos posted on GodTube the same as we handle a news article:

Looks as though my answer is here:

Innovating Tomorrow New Blog

This last couple months I have been putting together a new blog around church technology and, of course, drupal at http://www.innovatingtomorrow.net.

The goal is to talk about technology and the church with ideas, reviews, how tos, and how it all relates to the church.

What I'm curious about is what people think about the look and what I should blog about. I'm looking to help people. Anything in particular sitting out there I can blog about that will help you out?

Walking Through A New Church Install

I am making my first effort to use Drupal and am building a new church Website.

I am used to simple hardcoding in HTML and have avoided automated Website
apps because I disliked the cluttered code they produced.

The goal here is to build a site that multiple leaders in the church may help to
keep updated and which will facilitate staff, leader, and small group communications.

The prior contracted person failed to produce something usable and the site is now
many months late on delivery - I need to get some pictures and a calendar and
contact info up quickly.

New Drupal Church IRC Channel

Hey All!
Many of you may know that mfer and I run the Geeks and God Podcast. In the past we did a 10 part series on building church websites using drupal...there was HUGE interest, and lots of questions. People ask lots of questions about drupal on our website, but I figured I'd offer a more "live" way to talk about building church sites with drupal.

So, today I created the IRC room: #drupal-churches (on irc.freenode.net)

Hopefully we can get a little community going in there. I'll be hanging in there anytime I'm behind the keyboard. See y'all there!
