An open group formed to share and discuss Drupal-specific web management and content editing issues, for dual purposes:
-
To help each other solve issues we face as web managers and content editors
-
To formalize the solutions reached for eventual addition to Documentation and/or Support areas of Drupal.org
This is a discussion group for content editors and web site managers. Unrelated job postings will be removed
Designs for unified Blocks and layouts UI
As you may or may not know Blocks and layouts is a design problem that I have been working on for the better part of three years since I first started working at Acquia. Back then Jeff Noyes, Dries and myself were just focused on introducing drag-drop blocks to Drupal Gardens and didn't have a view to the wider problem of layouts because really at that point seven was not even out and it just seemed too big a problem to solve.
Read moreManager Editable Interface Help Text
Some of my customers have requested the ability to edit help text on node fields. Of course by default, giving them that ability means giving them the ability to add and edit fields themselves, which isn't something non-developers should always have. Before we dive into a solution for ourselves, I thought I'd see if anyone else has similar needs. Then we can put what we learn into writing a module or even submitting patches to core, as the case requires. So what are your thoughts? Do you have a need for web managers and content editors to edit the help text in the CMS interface? What solutions have you tried? What does the community need? Thanks for your input!

I am currently given consultancy to a newspaper and there is only one thing that we cannot find a solution that fits the clients needs.
The management of the front page.
This are the requirements:
1) Drag & Drop interface
2) Can attach to the frontpage any type of content defined.
3) User can define new regions to relate content in the front page.
4) User can override a taxonomy term page with the front page
5) Can override the image, title, link and short text associated with the related content in the cover without leaving the front page manager.
What topics would you like to see covered in a short screencast tutorial?
Hi everyone,
My company (Metal Toad Media) is making time available for me to work on short screencast tutorials for various audiences. You can see examples on our YouTube page. I thought I'd check in and see if anyone has any burning topics that you would like to see covered. The goal is to be short and informative, so something that could be covered in 5-10 minutes.

How to populate forms with data from a database in Drupal
I have a form that a user will fill out, but they may need to return to the same form to update or add data. I have created a form with Drupal's own fields and a custom form that I coded in PHP. I prefer to use my custom form because of the way it is formatted, but if needed I can use Drupal's. I want to populate the form when the user enters the correct password. Can I use msqli in PHP or do I have to use Drupal's methods? If so, how do I get the data from the DB with Drupal?

I am new to Drupal and have managed to create the basic website that my client wants, but they have a MS Access database. I cannot find any information anywhere that even mentions Access in relation to Drupal. Is it possible to have forms (I have created in html) be populated with data from this Access database through msqli queries in php? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Read moreGetting Help in the Drupal Community
I've been thinking a lot about what the major hurdles are to learn Drupal. One obstacle I've encountered is even learning how to ask questions effectively in the forums and how to interact with the community. Someone posted this article How to Ask Questions from Hackers and it really helped me understand how community supported help systems work and what info I should include in my questions. However, the tone in that article is a little harsh and I think we could make a friendlier version that's more Drupal Community specific.

Greetings! How can I display uc_checkout_pane_comments in uc_cart.module on uc_order-customer.tpl.php? I wanted to include it to display in my invoice form. I replaced the word "Order comments" into "Due Date". "Due Date" somehow is displayed in the invoice form but not the value uc_checkout_pane_comments. Thank you so much in advance for your help.

Hi everyone
I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but it's getting to be desperate measures to try and get rid of this warning message that I've had on my sites since January :-(
I've posted it as an issue over on cck issues:
http://drupal.org/node/1415342
But nobody has so far replied.
The message is:
Call to undefined function _content_is_empty() in .../sites/all/modules/cck/content.module on line 1380
I've been trying to solve this and it looks like CCK version 6.x-3.x-dev is also having people report the same issue - http://drupal.org/node/541768

Read moreMultisite/DA for non-techy clients -- Opinions?
Have a client who is ready for a proper website (from a very old static HTML site -- think Netscape 4 days), but don't seem to be web-savvy. I think these nice people could easily be overwhelmed in the CMS world, even though it really is very easy to add/update content. So, easy of client use is important. Given that, I am on the fence about the best approach to take -- ideally Drupal 7:
Domain Access
Multisite (shared db)
2 standalone sites
New article from Treehouse Agency for Drupal content managers
I just read an intriguing article for Drupal content managers and web editors:
3 Drupal Modules to Show Your Content Managers You Love Them
It introduces three modules by Treehouse Agency co-sponsored by energy.gov and available to the Drupal community. They all sound well worth investigating to me. And worth thanking Treehouse Agency for their contributions to the community.
Check it out. and let me know what you think...

Creating site update ticklers in Drupal?
Does Drupal have tools which remind me that if a particular change happens at our organization, that I have to visit pages x, y, z, a, b, c and d to check whether changes are needed? Or that content is about to become stale or need a verb tense change?
