What is Drupal Video
We made a video! I've just thanked the DA, here's what I wrote. Please do watch and pass round the video URL which is at the bottom!

Thanks from Brighton Area Drupal Association!
I felt most of the material available at the moment is fairly technical and also quickly becomes out-of-date so I applied for the grant in order to create marketing material which would help promote Drupal and our Drupal Discovery Day, and be generic and timeless enough to be of use and value to the community at large.

After a short break for summer and DrupalCon, the London Drupal meetup is back! For those who didn't attend DrupalCon, it'll be a great chance to catch up with what everyone is talking about. For those who did go, you can re-capture the magic by talking about your favourite open source CMS with your favourite beverage.
If you've never attended a meetup before, come on down! The crowd is mixed and friendly and the conversation covers open source, tech and anything else.
We'll be there from 7pm until around 11pm. Come down at any point and stay for as long as you like.

Whilst the wonderful Philip from Larchmont Films edits the video I've been busy making a card for the end of the video showing details of our Drupal Discovery Day next week along with sponsor logos.
Anyone can make one of these and put it onto the end of the video once it's released and use it for their own marketing uses, thought I'd post the card here so you can see! (yes, it conforms to the drupal logo 'exclusion zone' detailed here!)

I'm surprised to see only 2 people other than myself registered to come along tonight. I realise not everyone registers but would be good if you could thx!
The Drupal Discovery Day next week is our biggest opportunity yet in Brighton to network with other Drupal people and potential clients, so even if you don't come along to the local meetups do please come along then - we're doing this to help everyone!!!

Does anyone need a Drupal Contractor for some work in London at the moment?
I am working with a developer who is just about to roll off a client project for me.
He has been building PHP based websites for the past 10 years and has been building Drupal based sites for the past 3 and a half years. He is a solid back end module developer with good front end theming capability.
If anyone can help, please get in touch!

The Brighton Line to DrupalCon next Tuesday!
With East Croydon station being about a 10 minute walk to Fairfield Halls, the latest(!) trains we can get from Brighton are:
7.33->8.24
7.50->8.38
Having experienced registration queues previously, getting in at 8.38 leaves not a lot of time for delays if you want to see Dries' keynote so to be safe I'm going to aim for the 7.33 train.
Admittedly it's easier for me as I only live 4 mins walk from the station so I understand if you don't want to go that early, but be aware you might miss some of the keynote!

As a result of doing a bit of voluntary help with the Brighton Chamber of Commerce on their Drupal stuff they're helping us get the word out about our Drupal Discovery Day. As the current text is still a bit geeky for those who don't know what Drupal is we need to make some more words for 'normal' business people ;)
The Chamber have asked for three reasons why people should attend. At the moment I've been trying to work on one which is that Drupal enables access to Enterprise-level technology at SME prices, but that's still a little fluffy as what is Enterprise technology?!

This Monday sees the first of our 'Learning Drupal' meetups where we focus on uses and users of Drupal as opposed to site developers.
With 1,600 people about to attend DrupalCon London in a week's time, this week we will be discussing the topic of "Why use Drupal?", a.k.a. Do more than just blog!
Many people have a website with a blog and perhaps a shop, but what happens when you want to do more? With thousands of modules, Drupal easily allows you to tailor your site to your business.

Today sees the launch of the new http://bad-ass.org.uk site, with tickets now available for our Drupal Discovery Day in Brighton on 16th September, part of the Brighton Digital Festival. Please go and book your tickets now before we run out of places - also helps to show support in the attendee list so others can see there's a few people coming along!
I built the site in a few days using the Conference Organising Distribution. We originally had talked about charging a small cover for the afternoon event, however in the end I decided not to, because:

Today (and night it seems!) I've been setting up a copy of COD - the Conference Organising Distribution for our Drupal Discovery Day in Brighton on 16th September and working on copy for the site and promotional material. It's 1am so thought I'd post up what I've got so far before I crash for the night in case anyone wants to give any feedback. Ignore the formatting for the minute (especially seen as I can't seem to get the ULs and LIs working nicely ;) and just think about the words and the kind of people we're trying to attract to this event.

Thought it just needed a clean start going from some feedback.
The image is a picture I took, has no relevance apart from the fact a blank white omega base theme created by doing 'drush omega-subtheme badass' looked a little bland, and I thought our original theme was a little too dark and not really rocking... ;)
In terms of functionality I'm just working on the schedule for the discovery day so will be adding more up soon.

Don't forget it's BAD Monday tomorrow 7-9pm at http://theskiff.org!
We'll be talking about and showing you how the notion of 'An install profile for every site you build' lets you take control over your Drupal development using Features, Drush and Drush Make, and Profiler.
We'll also be finalising the details for the Drupal Discovery Day in September so do come along and join in the fun of organising an event and making sure it all goes off smoothly and successfully for one and all! ;)
See you tomorrow,
Steve

Hey all - I'm travelling from the south of NZ to London for DrupalCon, and a fellow Kiwi who lives there recommended staying in Brighton rather than Croydon.
I'd welcome any local knowledge or suggestions for hotels & great places to stay during my first week in the UK.
Thanks!
