About Greater Los Angeles Drupal (GLAD)
Greater Los Angeles Drupal (GLAD) is the umbrella group for most of the Drupal activity in the Greater Los Angeles Area.
With several weekly and monthly events, the Greater Los Angeles Area is one the most active areas for Drupal in the world. We've been bringing more Drupal to more people since 2010, and have as many as 10 meetups and other events dedicated to Drupal topics each and every month.
Our members and organizers have produced hundreds of Drupal events, including job fairs, meetups and workshops, conferences, paid trainings, coworking days, study group sessions, movie outings, FREE tutoring sessions from Drupal professionals, and website barnraisings to benefit non-profits and members of our community.
The Greater Los Angeles Drupal leadership team endeavors to actively empower and support volunteers and attendees in the Greater Los Angeles Area, and to provide resources (venues, guidance, equipment, raffle prizes, etc.) and an open governance model with consistency, transparency and accountability.

What's different about this group? (?)
In addition to our unique open governance model, GLAD has a different geographic focus than other regional groups. Formerly named Downtown Los Angeles Drupal, we've been meeting regularly in and around Downtown Los Angeles, California, since early 2010.
GLAD organizers lead a large number of events in the Greater Los Angeles Area, including Downtown Los Angeles, Koreatown, Culver City, Santa Monica, Pasadena, the San Fernando Valley, Orange County, Riverside and Ventura.
Items here are "new and interesting" based on their number of votes, number of comments, how recently it was posted, etc.

I created my first sandbox project: DbLog Event Simple Pager module
Adds simple forward/backward links to dbLog Event pages, via jQuery. This is to help debug if you'd like to move forward and backward through the events easily.

While I feel very comfortable coding Drupal, this is my first contrib module. Thanks to everyone in the LA Drupal community who've helped me at various time throughout the years.

We're excited to announce our first Drupal Commerce Meetup, on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, between 6-8pm. This is a new meetup and we meet on the 4th Tuesday of each month at a variety of venues.
We're meeting this time at Droplabs, a collaborative classroom, coworking space and hackerspace near Downtown Los Angeles. Those interested in attending this meetup remotely are welcome to join us via WebEx.
At our first-ever Drupal Commerce meetup, we'll be joined by of Commerce Guys' Ryan Szrama (@ryanszrama), the project lead of Drupal Commerce, who will present on integrating third-party product recommendation services with Drupal Commerce.
We'll also have a demonstration of the Commerce Kickstart installation profile and a walkthrough of many of the features found in the Commerce framework. If time permits, we'll also demonstrate a few interesting modules that extend Commerce in interesting ways, and learn about some of the community resources that are available to new site owners — and new business owners!
Do you have a request or an offer for additional presentations? Let us know by posting in the comments below. Thank you!

Drupal meetups are officially back in Ventura County! We're kicking off our new series of Drupal After Dark outings and monthly Ventura Drupal meetings with Introductions & Users Helping Users at BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse in Westlake Village, CA, on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, from 6:00-8:00pm. Join us!
There aren't any formal presentations scheduled for this event. Instead, we'll be getting together and talking tech and Drupal over some good food and microbeers. We'll have a round of introductions and raffle prizes, but for the most part we're introducing ourselves and getting to know each other.
If there's interest, we'll do a "reverse case study" of the BJ's Restaurant website at http://www.bjsrestaurants.com and talk about how we'd build it.
Formal presentations are being planned for our meetups on the 2nd Wednesdays of each month, starting on May 8, 2013, at Ventura Drupal's new meetup host, Pixelgate.

At the Boston Drupal meetup that was at Acquia this month, several presentations were focused on "what's new in Drupal 8" from the view of several people who now work at Acquia. I loved it. There were other presentations, as well (including one of my own!), and I really enjoyed seeing the Boston Drupal group again after many months.
During the questions and answers part of the meetup, I asked Dries if he was considering naming a security maintainer for Drupal 6 when Drupal 8 is released. (In case you didn't know, support for Drupal 6 will be discontinued by the Drupal core and security teams. See the handbook page on backwards compatibility at https://drupal.org/node/65922 for more, including Dries' original statement on the subject in 2006.)
