Drupal for Good

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

This group is a place to share ideas, organize and generally put our heads together regarding how Drupal is, and can be, used for nonprofit, charitable and social justice purposes.

Join us on the third Thursday of every month, at 1:00 PM U.S. Eastern for our group meeting by phone. View our next discussion date.

All calls are free and everyone is welcome! While "#npdrupal" refers to "nonprofit Drupal" (similar to "#nptech") our focus is broader than just nonprofit/NGO-specific uses of Drupal and encompasses all "Drupal for good" work like advocacy, community organizing, fundraising, and campaigns.

Our meetings take place at 1:00 PM US-Eastern/10:00 AM US-Pacific/19:00 CEST. (Convert to your local time zone.)

Using VoIP Drupal for social inclusion and civic empowerment in Wisconsin

Hello all,

Last week, I attended the 2012 MIT-Knight Civic Media Conference at the MIT Media Lab and had the opportunity to do a 5-minute "ignite talk" about the What's Up initiative that we are carrying in Wisconsin:

http://youtu.be/ToBvwEjNET8

Built on VoIP Drupal (http://drupal.org/project/voipdrupal/), What's Up is a software platform designed to allow people in a small geographic community to share information, plan events and make decisions, using media that is as broadly inclusive as possible.

How many people in this Forum follow a "growth mindset" or an "agile mindset"?

I was curious to find out how many Drupal people have an agile mindset also known as a growth mindset? This means in short, not ever knowing if you are 100% correct and exploring your doubts and not being afraid to be wrong or fail.

http://www.amazon.com/Mindset-The-New-Psychology-Success/dp/1400062756

That is a book on the topic. This is different from agile development.

RedHen CRM Demo

Last Tuesday I did a 20 minute demo of RedHen CRM at the PDUG meetup here in PDX.

This demo was based upon a sandbox sample install profile (and make file) at:

http://drupal.org/sandbox/seanberto/1490420

We'd love for you to check out the project. The sandbox is a lot like Commerce Kickstarter, in that it simply provides an example of what you can do with RedHen.

A quick run down of what you might want to check out in the distro:

  • Ability to manage custom entity bundles for contacts and organizations.

Blackoutspeakout, June 4

Many Canadian non-profit organizations are protesting the latest federal budget, here:

http://www.blackoutspeakout.ca/

If you know of any organizations that use Drupal and would like to participate, you're welcome to use and/or recycle this simple D6 sandbox module (based on a similar module created for the US sopa campaign earlier this year).

http://drupal.org/sandbox/adixon/1611860

or just use this command to grab it:

git clone --recursive --branch master http://git.drupal.org/sandbox/adixon/1611860.git blackoutspeakout

VoIP Drupal at the World Bank

Today the World Bank published a nice blog entry highlighting the use of VoIP Drupal to support good governance, social inclusion and citizen engagement:

http://blogs.worldbank.org/edutech/checkmyschool-voipdrupal

That blog was the outcome of a presentation that I did on May 2, 2012 to representatives from the World Bank, IDB and other organizations who work in education, eGovernance and related areas. For slides and additional information about that talk, have a look at: http://go.worldbank.org/XM1D7VZE10

Time Budget Proposal Review

Hello, ladies.

I give way too much time away; trying to give better (truer) estimates. Would appreciate any and all who might give this proposal (time estimates only) a quick glance. Seem about right? I think that it is conservative -- best case scenario. (This project has likelihood of serious scope creep!)

Feedback appreciated. Thank you!
