O'Reilly's Using Drupal book
http://oreilly.com/catalog/9780596515805/
I gave the book a flip through at a book store, it's pretty good for beginners to intermediate level users, you can simply follow each chapter step-by-step to build different sites with Drupal.
The electronic version includes 3 different formats with no DRM. I think I'm going to buy it... but then I see there's a "Buy 2 get the 3rd free" thing on there... so I thought I'd just ask on here. Anyone wants to buy an e-book? Check out O'Reilly's catalog.

For Drupal 7. It has a few links on documentations and stuff... if you're interested in i18n, you can go through them. I've signed up for it and see what I can do to help. Hopefully I'll learn something, and can do a presentation on my experience for all of you.
(I'll be here in Seattle for the 1st code sprint session and then I'll be back in HK for the 2nd. See u guys soon.)

Thanks to Dave for giving us the tutorial on how to use CVS and SVN with Drupal. A lot of the info here were provided by Dave during HKDUG's 2nd official meeting.
John's hostgrown.com has a security measure where files cannot have permissions above 755. This gave us a few headaches when installing Drupal as a lot of the files have 775. Here are the steps I took to install D6.
1) Install / Update from CVS

There is a map on the OpenRice page, someone please put the English address in a comment.
We'll meet at the restaurant at 7:00PM, Nick can you call and make a reservation if you think we'll need it?
Wives are invited... I think Nick's wife might come along so feel free to bring yours too!
This will most likely be my last Drupal event in Hong Kong, as I'm leaving on 22 December.

They will have screencast recordings available afterwards, so don't worry if you can't make it.

SOHO Life has a really nice office in Sheung Wan, literally a minutes walk from exit C. The rooms have projectors and wifi access, it's perfect for our meetings.
Nick and I have arranged to work on the SOHO Life website, and hope to complete it before December 6, 2008 (the day of http://openeverything.hk/2008/) since they are the venue sponsor for that event.

We've talked about the idea of having a sandbox server where all of us can mess around & put what we've learned to the test. At our 2nd meeting, I had spoken about getting SOHOlife English Training Centre to sponsor HKDUG with their venue and their web space.

Running Drupal from CVS
Karim had mentioned that it is possible to run Drupal from CVS to ease the task of upgrading. I'm wondering if someone knows of a good tutorial on how to do this or if someone could write one up.

Posted on both the Hong Kong and g.d.o maintenance group for transparency.
I'm a member of the Hong Kong Drupal User Group (http://groups.drupal.org/hongkong) and would like to request administrative privileges for the group. Recently we've seen increased activity and I'd like to use the og_panels functionality of g.d.o to give our group a better looking front page. I've tried contacting the current group admin, but he/she has the contact form disabled.

Any meetup soon? question for Views + Panels 2 + CCK and theming the output
Hey, any Views and Panels 2 guru around, got a couple of questions for them.
for views: I want to know how "argument" works, seems it's quite powerful, yet I couldn't find any relevant post in drupal.org
for panels 2:
- I wonder if I could use it to layout every blog node, and blog node alone, I know I can use panels to do "override" of individual nodes, but I want a panels layout for all the "blog node type", as the content of the layout may change alot, I want to have this panels solution over the page-node-blog.tpl.php theming one.
Informal Meeting Thursday Aternoon
The Creative Commons HK launch was today, I just got back from the lecture. While I was there I saw nick and Karim.
Nick and I plan to meet up some time on Thursday afternoon (1 or 2pm?) for an informal Q&A, I'm going to try and help him out with the project he's working on. If anyone else is interested in attending let us know and we'll pick a convenient place for everyone.

I originally planned to build my restaurant site and a blog for my family on the same Drupal codebase, I thought it would've been easier to build all the different content types, views, user profiles fields... etc, all in one place. Then, I started to do some research on multisite, and there are some really good posts on how to install Drupal in one place, then 2 sites folders outside of the Drupal folder for added security...

On Saturday we will be hanging out at Kosmo Coffee. Unlike our meetup last week there's no presentation and no structure. We'll just be sitting around with our laptops asking each other questions and giving answers.
Some topics that people want input on include:
* CCK
* Views
* Setting up a sandbox site
* Whatever else you come with
Kosmo Coffee is in Lan Kwai Fong in Central. For a map see here:

Casual hands-on meeting and setting up a sandbox
Hi y'all,
Just trying to gauge the interests for a more casual, hands-on meeting this weekend...
Since Dave's presentation on CCK & Views2, I've been trying to work with the 2 incredible modules and I'm sure most of you are doing the same. I thought may be we can show each other our work, and may be learn from each other?
