Brevard July Meeting Recap
We had seven attendees last night when Caroline generously opened her house up for our Brevard Drupal meetup. We enjoyed pizza and beer and good company.
Dorothy did a great job explaining Microformats and how they can be integrated right now in your Drupal site using the Microdata Module.
We also learned how the schema.org site can be used as a standard reference for these microformats. Thanks Dorothy!
I also started a Google Plus hangout, but no one attended remotely.

DrupalEasy Workshops next week in South Florida
Hey everybody,
Just a quick reminder that I'll be teaching a 3-day introductory Drupal workshop next week in Plantation. Full details are available at http://drupaleasy.com/training/south-florida/2012/july/jump-start-days.
This is professional training at a greatly reduced price - only $395 for three full days of instruction (or $150/day if you can't attend all three days). Students will receive printed materials and hands-on intensive guidance in the fundamentals of building a Drupal site.
Thanks,
-mike
What modules do you start with?
When you start a new Drupal site, what modules do you start with that helps build the structure of your site?
Pathauto is one such module along with Token. Module Filter is one that help you with the Module Page. I believe Devel Module should be installed.
What other modules should be installed before designing the site to help build the structure or the site? I know that it depends on what you are doing but I am after the general modules. Can you help?
Thank You
Ronald Norman
Thoughts about using Ubercart 3 v. Drupal Commerce anyone?
Was wondering if anyone had any thoughts regarding pros/cons, anecdotes, or opinions about Ubercart 3 v. Drupal Commerce. I pretty much followed Ryan Szrama with his switch from Ubercart to Drupal Commerce. I've found Drupal Commerce to be powerful and simpler in some respects, but then crazy-wild more complicated in others. And unfortunately, some of those others are aspects that the client wants to have control over yet obviously can't be expected to know the details of how to do heavy Drupal Commerce administration.

I just got back from a great meetup earlier this evening at the Alachua County Library Headquarters in downtown Gainesville.
We had a great turnout, and covered several topics including a presentation on responsive design in Drupal using both the Omega (http://drupal.org/project/omega/) and Zen (http://drupal.org/project/zen/) base-themes. We also covered rolling our own using CSS3 media queries in addition to data-driven mapping in Drupal, and growing the size of the group.
We talked a bit about our group reaching out and growing, and came to a couple changes:
1) New time for our meetup. This will now be at 7pm (same location)
2) We'll be doing a social happy hour afterwards - probably at Harrys or the Top (both within walking distance)
3) We're also going to be doing a bit of reach-out/networking with other users groups starting with the Gainesville Web Developers meetup (http://meetup.gnvwebdev.com/) this Monday. This is a great group of people, and I've attended this meetup several times and learned a bunch.
See everyone this Monday at the web dev meetup and then August 9th, 2012 back at our normal spot (7pm)!

The Gainesville Drupal Users Group will be meeting this Thursday 6pm at the downtown Alachua County Library. We'll be meeting in the Foundation Rm (ask a libarian if you need help locating it).
This week, we'll be talking about several topics including responsive design using various sub-themes. In addition, the illustrious Roland Riddell will be giving a quick demo of tinynav.js, which is a Jquery libary that facilitates responsive design. I'd also like to talk about several responsive design patterns and solutions- specifically formatting megamenus. If anyone has any solution, I'm all ears!
We'll also discuss current projects, blockers, Gators, and other things!
All newbies and ninjas are welcome!
Read moreHow to get products showing in categories?
I have a site with a mobile capable theme loaded at www.promodeler.com. The purpose of the site isn't to act as a shopping cart, but to act as a catalog for the products.
However, I am having trouble figuring out how to get the products showing by category. I do not want to use Commerce since the products are sold by brick-and-mortar stores, e.g. this site is a reference of what ProModeler offers. Can I do this without Commerce? Simply put, the products need to be sorted.

I've had a lot of questions about the Brevard Meetups and whether or not folks are getting the notifications so I thought I would put something up here and see if everyone concerned is getting the notifications. Also, Caroline suggested Parrish Medical Center 951 N. Washington Ave. Titusville, Florida 32796 as a venue for the meetups in the event we cannot use the Porcher House, which we can't do when Mike is unavailable. Parrish has meeting rooms with wi-fi and projectors.

Our Last Workshop
Last Saturday we talked about Categories: Taxonomy, Vocabulary and Terms. Taxonomy is the science of naming and classifying things. Inside of Drupal the term “Taxonomy” refers to any form of organization based on terms, the vocabularies they compose, and any hierarchical structuring of them.
This coming Saturday we will continue working with Taxonomy, Vocabulary and Terms since it is one of the bases for the structure of building a website using Drupal.
Please come and join us for the fun.
