Starting a Drupal Users Group at Univeristy of Florida
Hey everyone!
I'm starting a Drupal Users Group at UF. We'll replicate the success of GatorLUG, and also offer more workshops and panel discussions/Q&A. I'd like to have a meeting either the second or third week in this upcoming Spring 09. I'm looking for Drupal enthusiasts and participants who would like to get this group off the ground. We'll need to register the organization at the students' union (I'll take care of this) and get the word out (I'd like to make a flyer that can be posted on the school billboards).

We had a (central) Florida Drupal User's Group meetup at Mind Comet's offices in Altamonte Springs yesterday. Despite it being the weekend before Christmas, we had a good turnout - 12 people, including 5 new attendees (Daryl, Brenda, Damien, Kim, and Raheem).
The two main topics we covered were the "Do It With Drupal" conference and theming with Views 2.

Is anyone aware of a module that would allow creation of widgets with multiple sub-fields?
Say you have a custom XML feed that contains a set of main records, e.g. store name. Then say each store can have an optional set of special offers, which has half a dozen fields (title, price, etc) - rather than setting up yet another content type and doing a messy add/remove for nodes and node references each time, it'd be much cleaner if I could just use one field with nested data. Are there any modules with a nifty UI for doing this, or do I ultimately need to create a some widgets to do it?

Another book in the drupal revolution! This book is unique in that it is really a "cookbook" for a teacher (of any kind) to setup a new drupal site to use to enhance their classes.

I'm the organizer of the Australia Drupal community and am home for the holidays. I was wondering if anyone in Miami, or south florida in general, would be interested in meeting up. I brought some Drupal Australia schwag to share (and maybe swap with people). I'm also keen to swap ideas with the local organizers here and if there is anything I can do to help with the local community.

Best module for a product directory?
Fellow Florida Drupalers,
I'm in need of a product directory on one of my sites that will be used to browse, but not necessarily to buy, the various products this company sells. Actually, to be specific, the company does floor coverings and the "products" are styles of floors, similar to a tile company. I'd like the ability to have thumbnails and full size images (on click) as well as the ability to give each image a product description and cost per square foot.

If you haven't checked it out yet, be sure to check out Lullabot's new Form Builder - this looks to be the future for creating forms and content types in Drupal. The drag-and-drop goodness of it all is just part of its awesomeness - the underlying API holds the real power that will allow it to work together with any module that does anything with forms.

Event ical feed?
Is there any chance of having the upcoming events posted along with the feed made available via ical? I saw this on the Ireland group and it'd really be helpful for me so I stop missing out on all the fun. Thanks :)

This month's meeting focused on utilizing some of more well-known (and powerful) image modules: imagecache, imagefield, and Lightbox2.
Using a Drupal 5.x site, I (Mike Anello) went through the process of setting up imagecache with various presets (each "preset" is a specific image manipulation - often resizing the image for use as a thumbnail or other size). When an image is uploaded to the server via CCK and Imagefield, imagecache provides the opportunity to display the image using one of the aforementioned "presets".
