Libraries

This group is for libraries - public, academic, school, law, what-have-you. It is not about code libraries.
Ask questions and/or tell us what your library or organization is up to.

Please add your library to our Drupal libraries roster

Resources

For an introduction to how Drupal can be used by libraries, take a look at Ellyssa Kroski's excellent overview.

You can also check out library-related Slack channels on the Drupal team (#libraries) and the Code4Lib team (#drupal4lib).

XML wysiwyg Editor

Does anyone have interest, insight, or thoughts about starting an xml wysiwyg editor project for Drupal?

I'm interested in possibly authoring academic research (especially science) that is created and stored natively as XML and then transformed (through XSL and XSL-FO respectively) to HTML and PDF, as well as awesome formats like ePub.

Organizational vs. Personal Git Accounts?

For contributing to Drupal, are there any organizations out there that ask individual developers to use an organizational Git account (vs. a personal Git account) to make commits to projects? Are organizational accounts common in the Drupal community? Why or why not?

If you do use an organizational account, how do you (or they, if speaking of another org.) go about managing multiple Git identities on the local environment? Would you do this by just committing as yourself to internal projects and then committing as the org. account to a contributed project?

Spam control past mollom

We are currently using mollom to prevent spammers. This worked fine until about a month ago, when a couple of very invasive spammers somehow managed to get through mollom -- using complete and obvious garbage -- and post it 20-50 times a day to our site.

Does anyone have a best practices solution, or does anyone have other suggestions on how to beat spam?

We are running D 6.20.

Thanks in advance.

Access Control: OG vs. Workbench

Hey all,

My name is Courtney and I work as the Web Interface Designer at Johnson County Library in Kansas. We have begun our Drupal journey and are in the process of redesigning our Teen section in Drupal.

First, what sort of access control have you set up at your library? How does that work for you? Any shortcomings/pitfalls? Any awesome-sauce access control awesomeness?

Second, I've narrowed down options to two possible modules: Workbench suite or Organic groups.

Search widgets and sizing

I have several search boxes on my website that are from outside vendors. The vendors have websites where you can "create" your search widget with the parameters you want and then it spits out HTML code for you to put on your website. This code uses set pixels for size. I'm running into the problem of having the search boxes go beyond their block boundaries depending on the size of the screen the site is being viewed on. I've messed around with the code, trying to get them to be more flexible, but have had no luck.

New Library Website in Drupal: Stanford University Libraries

The Stanford University Libraries recently launched a redesign of its main library website at http://library.stanford.edu. I've written blog post about some of the technical approaches we took on the site that this group might be interested. We have more work to do on documenting the site, but hopefully this intro gives you all an idea of how we approached some of the more important features.

Creating a personal library site. How to I track borrowers?

I am trying to create a library site for my own personal book collection. I've figured out that I need to use the Field module (using Drupal 7) to create the books catalog, but what do I use to track users and the books they borrow?

About Drupal OPAC module (D7)

After Kelly's post I told myself that it would be cool to share our project with you and what's next. Alex began to develop the opac module. Now, this developpment will evolve differently from september with a whole team (commiters, testers, librarians, …), roadmap and users. We have a lot of ideas, work to be done, and things to do … and it's great!

New blog post on connecting an ILS to Drupal 7

Hi Everyone,

I just posted my first blog about our (Isovera's) project to build an OPAC front-end in Drupal. The blog itself is about the various ways to connect to an ILS (web services/NCIP, SIP2, direct database, etc).

I'm new to the library world so please don't hesitate to dress me down in the comments!

Advice on Technique for LOD-enabled "Digital Library"

Good morning,

I've cross-posted this to both Semantic Web and Libraries because I think there are elements that appeal to both.

I'm going to give a bit of background on the project I'm working on and hopefully I can get some confirmation as to whether or not this is the "best" way to go about doing this. This is Drupal 7, of course. So far, I've been moving in the most obvious direction and using the tools that are most readily available.

Report on the Drupal4Lib BoF at ALA Anaheim

Only local images are allowed.

Great and rousing session at the Drupal4Lib BoF. We had a too-and-fro which was both extremely fun and informative. This consisted of talking shop, of talking approaches to problems and of plans that people had for the future. Drupal4Lib IG Chair and Co-chair Nina McHale and Chris Evjy were there to tell us about their activities. Ilana Kingsley (UAF) kindly volunteered to serve as chair of the IG for the coming year.

Thanks to everyone who came. It was a great opportunity to meet people directly who we otherwise only know online.  Hope to see you all next year in Chicago!
