TOPICS

  • Drupal 7 Overview - "If you blink, you'll miss it all" - Drupal Association Board Member, Cary Gordon (Cherry Hill Co.) will be reviewing Drupal 7 in a speedy 20 minutes. If you blink, you may miss it. Come see the need-to-know about Drupal 7 which is coming out soon.

  • Short Talk: Drupal 7 Themes (part 1) - "Get the rundown of what matters" - LA Drupal Manager, Chris Charlton will demo details of how themes in Drupal 7 are both different and similar to the way they are built in Drupal 6. One amazing new feature is the inclusion of the ever popular plain-white "Zen" Theme Framework built in and renamed "Stark" for Drupal 7. There are over 40 new theme layer features and changes. Come see what these changes are. Chris Charlton is the author of "Drupal: Creating and Editing Custom Themes" video course on Lynda.com, which can be viewed at http://tinyurl.com/theme-drupal (there are free video samples available to non-subscribers). This is now going to be a multi-part talk.

  • Lightning Talk: Using Workflow + Flag + Content Lock modules - Rain and Ashok (LADrupal.org Web Site Team Members) will show how they're using Workflow, Flags and Content Lock modules to make editing super easy. This combo is shown in a case-study of the new Cavotes.org site scheduled to go live early April.

  • Lightning Talk: Randomize site graphics with ImageCache Actions + Views modules - Mike Stewart (MediaDoneRight.com) & LA Drupal Co-Manager) will demo how he used Views and ImageCache Actions modules to create randomized imagery with effects on a fun kids school Drupal site. A must see!

  • Lightning Talk: Drupal Gardens demo - Christefano will give a short demo of Drupal Gardens, the hosted CMS option from Acquia that's to Drupal as WordPress.com is to WordPress - which is great since anyone can signup for a Drupal site and not have to host it themselves, but if the site grows then you can export the site and migrate to a bigger hosting plan or 3rd party vendor. Drupal Gardens is built on Drupal 7, which is due for release this year.

  • Getting ready for DrupalCon San Francisco (April 2010). Are you going to DrupalCon this April? Group discussion of what sessions look hot and which BoFs (community sessions) people should know about! We'll also introduce the LA Drupal members who are presenting, and get to hear some of them preview what they'll be discussing at the conference.

Main Presentation Area

Main presentation area holds up to 80 people and is geared towards general interest topics, especially geared towards people who are new to Drupal or the Topic(s) being presented. It is also a forum for sharing, asking questions.

Lightning Talks - come prepared to talk for 5 min. about something you'd like to share with the Drupal group. Finished a new Drupal site? Find a cool new module? Keep it succinct - you get stopped at five minutes - but we'll be nice about it.

Community Q & A will be available, followed by Job Announcements.

And...

In addition to our presentation(s) of the night we have open-mic opportunities for those who have general Drupal questions or need help during our wonderful meeting segment, "Ask the LA Drupal Community." Need to just ask another human a Drupal question? Then this is that chance.

We have raffle prizes for attendees, and as always, the end of the meeting is our networking session with the fun and knowledgeable LA Drupal crowd.

Those wishing to make announcements for Drupal jobs/work, please come early and speak to the organizers and we can provide time for you to speak to the audience.

Tags for the night:
Post photos on Flickr.com with the tag "ladrupal" and "drupal".

Whats an LA Drupal meetup like? Fun & Interesting!

LA Drupal meetups are free and open to anyone interested in Drupal from beginner to guru, but you have to bring a fun attitude and be willing to share or learn.

We have areas for networking, general topics, and more advanced learning and sharing. Presentations and a big breakout session at the end to chat and network.

We like to highlight and encourage folks with cool local projects to present at upcoming meetings. In the past year we've had presenters from Warner Brothers Records; hosting over a hundred artist sites on Drupal, StandUp2Cancer.org - over a million hits in one day during the airing of the show, and local shops such as www.ThisByThem.com, www.ActiveLamp.com, www.openChimp.com, www.chillco.com, www.exaltations.net, www.WorkHabit.com, www.AchieveInternet.com, and others. Topics have included How to build your first Drupal Module, Using Views, Panels, Drush, Edit Themes, and Scaling Drupal & Cloud computing just to name a handful.

Have a topic you'd like to see? Add it here: http://groups.drupal.org/node/9220
