Drupal Patch Bingo is a code sprint at Droplabs from 6-10pm on Saturday, August 20, 2011. You're invited!
Wait, what's Drupal Patch Bingo? Glad you asked! We're combining a code sprint with the universal accessibility and old fashioned charm of a 5x5 bingo game board. Teams with equal numbers of Drupal newcomers and Drupal veterans will be using the Drupal core patch bingo feature on Drupal.org to:
- Find outstanding issues in the Drupal core issue queue
- Score points by rolling patches and marking issues as RTBC (reviewed & tested by the community)
- Win prizes, bragging rights and more!
We're looking for volunteer contestants and judges, so sign up by clicking the Sign up button below! RSVPs are not required, but signing up makes it much easier for the event coordinators to arrange adequate tables and seating and contact you with last-minute updates (if there are any).Read more
Modeled after the Drupal 7 Release Parties we had in January here in Los Angeles and around the world, we're celebrating the release of Varnish Cache 3, the first major release since version 2.0 was released in October 2008.
Varnish is a threaded HTTP accelerator and reverse proxy that's used extensively by high performance, enterprise Drupal sites. It is part of the Project Mercury community project and is also included with Pantheon and Acquia's Dev Cloud and Managed Cloud offerings.
At the party will be FREE coupon codes good for 3 months of free hosting with Acquia Dev Cloud. Beta codes for Pantheon will be raffled off at the Drupal meetup and job fair on June 21st, also at Droplabs.
What to bring
Big Art Labs, where Droplabs is located, is having a barbeque and party at the same time right outside our doors, and are featuring two unique art installations:
- The Dragon Oven is is a giant metal pizza oven shaped as a dragon. They'll have it onsite - so please bring pizza fixings: dough, sauce, cheese or any toppings you enjoy and we'll have fresh fired pizza. We'll set it up near the firepit.
- The Engine is an incredible 2000lb transportable steel sculpture that houses a rotating 17' screen and features a high-end audio/visual system. It's currently set up in SmashLabs (one our neighbors at Big Art Labs) on the main stage and we're planning on showing some cool animation shorts. Please bring your own if you'd like to screen them.
All of Big Art Labs is welcome at Droplabs and vice versa. We follow the rules and guidelines we inherit from Big Art Labs and we ask that the Varnish 3 Release Party attendees be respectful of our neighbors, bring something to share to throw on the grill and get ready to make your websites fly.
Just bring your laptop, your business cards or whatever else you need. We share a large parking lot with Big Art Labs and there's plenty of free parking. After you pull into the parking lot, park to the left of the entrance and follow the signs to Droplabs.
Please note that our guest wireless network is limited to 1Mb per client, so bring your MiFi router or a phone you can tether with if for some reason you need a lot of bandwidth. Access to our high-speed network is included with a Droplabs membership.Read more
Save the date! On Friday, May 6, Droplabs is kicking into open beta and throwing what's shaping up to be an extraordinary event, in conjunction with Toyshoppe Systems, another company at Big Art Labs. All of Big Art will turn out, so we thought it would be a great opportunity for the Drupal community to mingle with the Big Art community at the beginning of Drupal's first hacker / co-working space.
It's potluck barbecue, with a great big bonfire, so bring something to throw on the grill, something to drink, and something to munch on. Evenings have been a bit cool, so unless you're super warm blooded, you might find that you need a jacket.
Droplabs' open beta is just that: we're opening up to the community, and not charging until we officially launch in June. We want to give you an opportunity to try it out for free and see how you use it, tell us what you want or don't want, and generally feel free to hang out as much or as little as you want. You know, open beta. Bring your laptop. Show up. Use the space. Interact with your fellow Drupaleros and see how much joy you can bring to your Drupal practice.
We have some furniture, and before we invest in more, we want to see what the needs of the community actually are. (We'll also gladly accept furniture donations.)Read more
Drupal Design Camp LA is barely 60 days away and we're having a website sprint on Saturday, December 11th. It will be between 10am-4pm. We might go past 4pm if we're up for it, but please don't show up before 10am.
The plan for the day is to use the Conference Organizing Distribution to set up the site and then write content (venue information, hotel locations, etc.) and add any extra modules that make the cut. We'll also start talking about the volunteer task list for the camp.
Signups are disabled for this event. We're just going to show up, roll up our sleeves and have fun!
We're meeting between 10am-4pm at 4402 West Pico Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90019, which is right on the corner of Pico Blvd. at Windsor Blvd. The nearest major intersection is Pico Blvd. and La Brea Blvd.
Here's a photo from Google Street View that shows the front door. Windsor Blvd. has free on-street parking and Pico Blvd. has metered parking. Out of respect for our neighbors, please do not park on Victoria Park Dr.
This location is on the edge of Wilshire in Los Angeles, but it's also called Mid City and is right next to Victoria Park. Sheesh. If you have trouble finding the place, here's a photo from Google Street View. You can also call LA Drupal's hotline at 855-LADRUPAL (855-523-7872).
Lunch will be potluck-style, so please bring enough food and drinks for yourself + one. We have a grill, a fantastic kitchen and a huge dining room table. BYOB if you'd like. Please post a comment below to let others know what you're bringing.Read more
We had rain last Wednesday so we are starting on Wednesday October 13th at 7pm. I guess it is save to say that we meet every Wednesday unless it rains or there is a general LA Drupal meeting going on that day.
We now have a Drupal 7 beta release and the critical issues are down to 7 today.
Our first presentation will be by Christefano. The title is "Download your site from Drupal Gardens. Add some modules that are not available on Drupal Gardens yet. Views, Rules, and Commerce. Install everything locally and see where the pitfalls are"
The Drupal 7 critical issues are now below 20. Even there is no beta release yet it seams we have a very stable alpha. Starting October 6th 2010 we will start a weekly Hollywood Drupal workshop (Wednesdays) which will focus on Drupal 7. Like the name says, it's in Hollywood in my back yard.Read more
For those involved in the ladrupal.org site build, we are holding a sprint (that will hopefully result in a site launch) and a BBQ for July 3rd. Details here: https://intranet.ladrupal.org/hollywooddrupal/node/1020
Please sign up here so that Benno knows how many parking passes to get!
Note: this event is a finishing sprint, so please only plan to attend if you have been part of the process to date. If you have not but want to volunteer to help out, don't worry -- there will be plenty more opportunities to help us improve this site over the next few months ;)
ladrupal.org working meeting for Saturday, May 15, 1pm-7pm.
We'll be meeting at Benno's in Hollywood. Contact organizers and signup here to RSVP if you are planning to attend. Once you are confirmed, we'll send the location details.
We need a full headcount no later than Thursday, May 13 in order to get the proper number of parking passes.
This is a working meeting during which we will be taking wireframes, mockups and what we have already built and sprinting to get it live.Read more
The third working meeting to rebuild ladrupal.org will be held
Tuesday, Jan. 12
7:00pm - 10:00pm
at Benno's in Hollywood, CA
The basic setup of the site is nearly complete, including almost all of the content types and necessary modules. Some of us are moving on to building out views and content on the site. We are hoping to finish this meeting with something concrete to show the group at the Jan. 26 ladrupal meetup.
Please bring your own laptop, as this is a working meeting, not a conversational one.Read more
