Hello Awesome and soon to be Awesome South African Drupalistas!
Read moreServer (and Virtual Server) Hosting in South Africa
Hey Everyone!
I've been a long-time client of Hetzner in South Africa. Since '96 in fact and their service have been so good I've not really shopped around much. All these years I used their managed server offerings, but in 2011 I moved from a Windows desktop to a Linux one (briefly stopping on Ubuntu before settling with Mint) - I was just done with commercially provided binaries and lock-in on my hardware. This year I switched over our servers to root servers too (with much help from the SA Drupal community).

Read moreCode of Conduct for the South african Drupal Community?
How would you guys feel about adopting a code of conduct for the South African Drupal community.
As a reference the Drupal.org DCoC page, the revision of a new CoC after much community input and the implementation of that revision for the DrupalCon Portland CoC.
As you will see from those links, it is an exceptionally positive document and very supportive and encouraging. It can only help welcome new members to our community and the Drupal project in South Africa.

Getting DrupalCon Portland videos:
Install youtube-dl, on Ubuntu just type:
sudo apt-get install youtube-dl
Update youtube-dl: Run twice!:
sudo youtube-dl -U
Then just run:
youtube-dl -citw --max-quality url "https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLpeDXSh4nHjRlZKs7cj2L_kLI5osP5ERc"
You can resume if it fails and if they add new videos to the playlist, just run it again to get the newest videos too.
Read moreHere's a technical one...... Multisite or Domain Access?
Here's an interesting challenge:
Site 1 has subdomains that will not share the user table, but will share modules.
Site 2 has a different domain, but will share the user table with site 1, and has different modules but will share some page content.
They are currently on two different servers, but I can place them on the same machine to share DB etc.
From what I have read I have a hybrid of the functionality between the two approaches.
Multisite or Domain Access? Which one should be used to do the trick here....
Thanks in advance for your tips!

Top 100 Drupal Websites Internationally
So... Up to now we were comparing our Drupal usage portion of recognized CMSes in our top Drupal websites in South Africa, at 8.3% to Drupal usage for all websites internationally at 10.1% and many of us wanted to beat that number... it's not that far behind... but that is not the whole story (is it ever).
Reference the site we already know:

Need help for networking and business advice South AFrica
I am an Australian Developer just moved here for www.emergingstars.com. The site was on WordPress, I transferred it to Drupal and made it amazing with all Drupal coolness(8 custom modules in total). The stunning thing is I can't believe I transferred almost 56,000 plain WordPress posts into Drupal content types with Taxonomies and Language stuff, that tells us what drupal is capable of.
For the Drupalars, I was wondering if someone from the Group can guide me for my "little" business www.eshockit.com. I have general networking queries only.

Read moreTop South African Drupal Sites at beginning of June
Things remained pretty same-same the last few months. So this month I hoped to have a top international Drupal websites stats page up, but the international one hits all 15 000 top sites and some of those domains look pretty scary, so I set the international version up on it's own vHost just to be extra safe. The South African one also just analyses .za domains of the top 15 000 that are accessed by South Africans while the international one analyses all 15 000 in it's list.

I have been asked to gather Drupalites in Durban to startup a local group. Can anybody therefore give me indication of how other groups are functioning and what is the objective for such a group. What is the community contribution and what benefits has to be offered to a member. What resources has to be contributed or demanded. What structure has to be followed in such a group, what skill level is required or not required etc. etc.
I have willing participants and they are keen to become part of it. I look forward to hear from you guys.

I suffer insomnia quite a bit. So last night I decided to stay seated in stead of rolling around and get something done at least. After all work items were done and my brain started dying, I referenced this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQ4zNu0HtCQ and decided to try it for myself.
