Creating a staff directory

I've been trying to figure out the best way to create a staff directory for our newspaper site.

It isn't totally straight forward because I need to separate it by departments and the head of each department will also need to be a part of the Executive staff. Because the department heads are in two places and in different orders, I'm having some difficulty trying to figure out the best way to approach this.

If I create a sort order field, it will apply to one department, but not the Executive team and vice versa...

Archive pages with articles sorted by sections

I'm building a newspaper site, and along with it, an archive of all our past issues. When somebody selects on a particular issue, it will list all the articles from that issue. What I'd like to accomplish is what this site does (http://tinyurl.com/nuvw4t).

(Note: I tried submitting the original URL, but apparently the spam filter here doesn't like the word "5ocialist". Red Scare?!)

Archive!

Dear all!

I am using d6.13 and building a site for a monthly magazine which has 10 categories of news. I am adding the respective articles under each categories ex.

www.mysite.com/news
www.mysite.com/beautytips
www.mysite.com/politics
www.mysite.com/technology
www.mysite.com/marketwatch
etc

which will be the regular links.

What I am looking for is to know how to bind all these articles together? Something like a book module... When its archived, all these should happen simultaneously.

Regards
Jo

FeedAPI and AP Webfeeds

I was wondering if anyone had discovered a way to fetch AP Webfeeds using FeedAPI on Drupal 6?

So far, I can't seem to get anything to go through. I'd like to be able to retrieve the data and use the Mapper to create nodes, but I don't know if that's going to be possible with the current feed parser.

Mr. Yelvington

I hope you won't mind me picking your brain here, but I was looking at your site, and I love the way you guys have that slideshow of images and captions in the story.

I was wondering which modules you were using for that effect if you don't mind me asking. I'm struggling to get the same type of effect on our new site, and it hasn't been going well for me so far.

I've been using imagefield and cck, with Lightbox, but I can't seem to get captions to show, nor can I create that sort of slideshow effect with it.

Any tips you could throw my way would be very very helpful.

Thanks sir.

How do I get rid of the taxonomy terms display on my page?

I apologize in advance for the dumb question, but for the life of me I can't seem to find the setting to address this.

I am using Taxonomy menu in conjunction with my taxonomy vocabulary and terms to create the menus for our newspaper site. Everything works great when I click on the sub-items (terms) beneath each individual menu items/vocabulary (News, Sports, Lifestyle, Opinion, etc...). So for example, when I click on the sub-menu beneath "News": "Local News", "Local Business", "High Schools", etc... the page opens fine without issue.

How we're handling images in news stories

David Johnson was wondering how we're handling images without getting sucked into the morass of img_assist and the various rich text editors. Our approach, which has some strengths (simple and idiot-proof) and some weaknesses (these images are not nodes), is as follows:

Both news stories and blogs are CCK content types. The key element is Emfield, more formaly known as the Embedded Media Field module. We use it with its close relatives Embedded Media Import, Embedded Media Thumbnail, Embedded Image Field and Embedded Video Field.

Question about Byline

I'm wondering if anyone here can offer a little advice on handling something as simple as an author byline in our workflow.

Our reporters write their stories in NewsEditPro from MediaSpan, and later on in the day our editors drop those into our InDesign pages. Those same editors also handle uploading the stories to our website everynight. This leaves me with the problem of the story being entered by someone who didn't write it.

Is there a slick way to handle getting the right author name on a story?
