Introduction to Aegir presentation from DrupalCon Szeged

I did a presentation at Drupalcon about Aegir, which included how to install it, what the requirements are and guide
through the user interface.

You can find flash and downloadable versions at archive.org and the slides from the presentation are also available.

Hosting

What is everyone doing for web hosting? As a group, we could likely consolidate our sites to run on a single server optimized for Drupal (ideal PHP.ini settings, modules, etc) and save everyone a load of cash in the meantime.

Now, obviously, we probably don't want to share a server that is in charge of a BIG drupal site, because that runs the chance of blowing performance for everyone.

We could probably cover the cost of the server easily with what our clients are paying for current solutions, and get them an SLA (uptime promise) and improved performance.

Thoughts?

Drupal shared hosting

Any recommendations on shared hosting vendors? Any things to look out for? I'm looking at a small site that is moving from a static web site.

Thanks, RickG

Hosting ... again ...

I know I have asked this question before, and I got great responses about hosting a drupal site.
I have one site, at one domain, at SiteGround, and though there is no phone support, I haven't had any problems ... yet.
The last thread warned us to stay away from Site5, and so I will.

My brother wants a web-site for his small business, and based on his needs: web-hosting, email, bandwidth, etc.
I wanted to find something that would meet his needs, start small and add services as needed.
There's going to be about 4 domain names just sharing the same drupal instance.

Can I share or import data from another Drupal site to my current site and then export back?

Hi all,
I would like to know whether it is possible to import customer profiles from an external MYSQL database (ie, from another drupal site hosted on a different server) to my current drupal site to be used for running my applications and then export them back with some profile modifications?

I would like to keep the main database site separate from my application site and run it with only necessary data fetched from the main database. Will this system work? Is it something complicated to administer?

Hostmaster 2 0.1 Alpha 3 Released

I have just published the 0.1 Alpha 3 release of the Hostmaster 2 site instance management platform.

This is a much smaller bug fix release, which also includes some documentation we missed in the previous release. This release has also been tested with Drupal 5.8.

I have also updated the installation wizard walkthrough, and the user interface walkthrough is still current.

Hosting, routing and performance conundrum

I have a site that will be heavily used in only six or eight states but they are on different sides of the continental US. I found a really fast host on the east coast with super service, etc, but whenever there is heavy network traffic, it is dog slow on the west coast. I imagine the opposite is true. I found this by doing a tracert and seeing that the big delay was in the middle of the country.

Does anyone have any thoughts or advice on how to select a host for best performance in this case? It is truly a conundrum.

Walang kakwenta-kwentang kwento ng buhay... Don't waste your time reading...

I started to use Drupal about 14 weeks 3 days ago as depicted in my account in Drupal.org. I found our Pinoy group because of this post.

I join because I want to keep in touch with people of my blood. I am not an IT professional and I don't have any proper training in website development. I started to build static pages last October 2007 in free hosting as a hobby, but this hobby turns into passion. My stay at free hosting gave me some opportunities to learn the basic HTML and some CSS. Being my passion, I go with the paid hosting at Yahoo! in November 2007 then run my static pages with my very own domain. How proud am I with my own domain.

Hosting ideas?

Folks, I'm looking for some ideas.

I currently play "site admin" for four different web sites. They are all physically located in different web hosting accounts with the same web host. All of them are running Drupal. My role with all of them is to keep Drupal and the necessary modules and themes up-to-date and to establish the structure and functionality of the site. It's someone else's job to create and manage content using the tools that Drupal provides. All of these sites are for not-for-profit organizations and I'm not making any money from them...just covering expenses.

A mass hosting consortium?

We've had various good efforts now at building mass provisioning solutions for Drupal. But too often we're building solutions in isolation, in competition, without enough resources to pull them off. We end up with duplication, half-finished products, privatized code. To put it mildly, it feels like we're not making the best use of the potential of open source.
