I'm a multimedia developer (I can do a bit of everything but always have to learn more to complete a task), I have experience in developing HTML, CSS, Javascript, Actionscript 2 moving to 3 now and a very brief understanding of PHP.

I've recently started learning how to implement Drupal as I have undertaken the development of a website for a public body that requires a CMS and they legally need the site to comply to WCAG Double A standards for site users but not contributors or adminstrators.

I am Sivaji a computer science engineering student from India/Chennai who has applied for soc2009. My project is all about enhancing existing Drupal Quiz module. The existing quiz module (version 2.x) is fairly simple, it lacks many functionalities (timer, gradebook integration, cvs question import etc) that an academically oriented quiz engine expected to have.

I am looking for a tutor to learn Drupal from the ground up.

I live in midtown manhttan - and hoping to spend a few hours a week with someone who can help me out.

I have ZERO experience, but am somewhat intelligent. :D

Hey Theme Gurus,
I'm a theme newbie looking for good how-to resources for the theme engine in Drupal 6. I'm just starting to learn PHP, but I've been web programming with other modern OO languages for the past 10 years. I've hacked around with some of the themes freely available on drupal.org to try to learn it myself, but it's proving to be a little overwhelming.

I'm sort of familiar with Drupal but haven't had too much experience. I wanted to start this discussion to ask basic/beginner questions.

A question I'm wondering about right now is the out-of-the-box speed of Drupal. I've installed 4, 5, and 6 (not all at once) and they seem to be slow, right out of the box, with no content or any modules. Why is this? Is it a Drupal problem or is my server not optimizing PHP, or something else?

Has anyone else experienced this?

What are your beginner questions?

I started to use Drupal about 14 weeks 3 days ago as depicted in my account in Drupal.org. I found our Pinoy group because of this post.

I join because I want to keep in touch with people of my blood. I am not an IT professional and I don't have any proper training in website development. I started to build static pages last October 2007 in free hosting as a hobby, but this hobby turns into passion. My stay at free hosting gave me some opportunities to learn the basic HTML and some CSS. Being my passion, I go with the paid hosting at Yahoo! in November 2007 then run my static pages with my very own domain. How proud am I with my own domain.

I thought I'd post a couple of quick links to some of the development resources mentioned by me and others last night at the PDXDUG meeting. (Andrew, maybe you can add a link to the module metrics you were talking about).

As we said last night, don't play on your production site; create a dev/sandbox copy where you can wipe everything out if it gets gnarly (and maybe this is obvious, but make sure you're using a different database that the main site too!).

I have this incredibly selfish idea that maybe a few other people are into. I want to do a few skillshare sessions

I'm insanely behind on a lot of personal projects that I would really like to get done soon. Much of what I need done is basic work around theming, installation and configuration. The problem is that there is a lot of work to be done and since they are personal projects I don't have a budget to pay anyone to help me (nor am I making money of the site to promise future riches).
