The 2006, with the explosions of huge video based community websites such as Youtube, has shown how video contents are becoming one of the most direct and cool to use web communication approach.
Drupal, as a leading open source content management platform, absolutely needs a good and globally accepted video content approach.
This group aims to get ideas and coordinating efforts between the different people involved in the video content development. The goal is to provide drupal with an easy, powerful and extensible support for videos.
Video module 7.x-2.1-alpha2, what you should know?
Original post : http://heididev.com/video-module-7x-2x-what-you-should-know
I released video module 7.x-2.1-alpha2 version on 11th of Sep. This major version completely redesign the video module and its core, I'm the only one worked on this release and seems our co-maintainers (6.x) had no time to contribute code to the 7.x yet. I'm very very happy about the progress of downloading and using video module. It has over 10,500+ usage now.
In this article I'm going to examine some new features added to the video module.

I've recently finished a big video project, hoping to be the next big YouTube. I'm hoping they are too. In the process I encountered a host of different challenges as you do with any new project. I thought I'd share some of the critical success variables back with the community. Hopefully, I'll help you avoid some of the growing pains I suffered through.

Druplicon request for the Media Group!
Anyone interested in creating a logo for the new Media group? Maybe Druplicon with a painter's smock and brush? Or a multi-color pixellated Druplicon? Or a video/image/music note montage swirling around Druplicon? Or ... ?

The following is the current list of Birds of a Feather (BOF) sessions on the white boards near the registration tables at Drupalcon DC that relate to Media. The list will certainly change over the week. Sessions relating to Media have been tagged on delicious. Please feel free to add those missing sessions! (This page is a wiki).

I'm quite interested in building a Drupal site that could aggregate video from a channel on a given 3rd party site such as youtube, vimeo, blip.tv, etc. and display it on the site. I'm sure that there is a module to do this. My difficulty, however, lies with the fact that the site and all content on the site will be password-protected, and this includes any videos on it.

FYI, I'm planning to do a Dojo session (using DimDim) sometime hopefully early this week around Embedded Media Field, with the following goals:

Media Sprint TODO?
The Media Sprint 2009 Wiki has a rough outline, based on an earlier document started by arthurf, but needs some serious fleshing out. I plan to begin working in earnest again on the sprint later next week and the following (am trying to slot 3-4 solid working days towards it).
There are also several volunteers who have offered to help over the coming weeks as well. We need to try to build some organization.
Read moreHow to stream flv from flash streaming server (RTMP)?
I've been using FlashField with SWF Tools, and I've also tried FlashVideo...and Embedded Media Field. Now, what I really need, is to be able to stream from a RTMP server by giving the URL in a CCK field (rmtp://example.com/myvideo.flv) and to use a flashplayer like JW to display it. Seems easy, but I don't think there's a solution out there at the moment for Drupal.
Any thoughts?
