This group is for everyone living in the DC metro area who's interested in Drupal. You can post here about anything relating to DC and Drupal, whether that's local job postings, events, or just a call out to talk shop over beers.

We have a great meetup every month where we get together to connect in person. The target audience is Drupal developers, users, and people who want to learn more about Drupal. We start the meetups with a round of very focused lightning talks that discuss real world solutions to existing problems, new work people have done, and Drupal news. Some of these talks are about code, and some are not. We do ask that all presenters talk on a level that everyone - including non-developers - can follow. After the talks, we chat over beer, and maybe play a few games of foosball.
We're open to ways to improve the meetups and this group, so speak up if you have ideas!

- We will discuss best practices for managing users, creating content, defining custom content types using the fields UI, displaying data using views, extending Drupal capabilities with modules and changing the appearance using themes.
Drupal 7 Module Development - 2 day Online Course!
Can't travel for training, but need to figure out how to build custom functionality into your Drupal 7 site? Join us via Webex for a 2 day course. Module Development will teach you how to get custom functionality using Drupal's hook system, as well as how to extend or alter contributed module functionality. 'plettster', our own Margaret Plett, will be the instructor. Cost is $800 per student, ask about group discounts.

So we have decided that we would want a Drupal website installed on our shared server hosted environment. In our business plan we plan on hiring a developer to install the Drupal website and incorporate the website design theme of our choice. I would like the developer to provide a training session so the company staff (probably 1 or 2 people). Based on the location, I imagine this training session would take 1-2 hours and be conducted online or via the phone (if possible).

A couple of weeks ago we submitted a proposal to the Knight News Challenge (http://kng.ht/16Fw8w6) for free hosted open data portals for local government based on our DKAN Drupal Distro (http://drupal.org/project/DKAN). The submission made the front page of the contest based on "applause," and got some nice press coverage (http://bit.ly/10Gp7Zj), which has drawn enough interest to ignite a bit of a flame war about the merits, or lack thereof, of Drupal for government. Please do weigh in as you see fit! :)

Monthly Drupal Meetup at Stetson's: Monday, April 8
Our regular meetup is the second Monday of every month at Stetson's on U St. Join us for a round of lightning talks and plenty of socializing. This is a pretty casual event: everyone is welcome, and by no means do you need to look professional!

I'm wondering if anybody else would like to start a Columbia, MD Drupal meetup. The group that had been meeting has lost its location in Columbia Gateway. I'm thinking if the group stays below a certain size, we could meet at Panera Bread at 175 and Snowden. River Topics would be wide open, depending on the skills and interest of whoever shows up. I for one would like to learn and share about modules and site building. Please let me know if you're interested. This meetup could start right away if we get some people.
