Drupal Groups Churches Home

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Welcome

Welcome to the Drupal churches group. This is a group centered around building Church websites with Drupal and a point for members of The Church to go out into the Drupal community. In this group we discuss how to use Drupal, modules to use, integrating other services with Drupal, and the ins and outs of building Church websites.

The Drupal church community extends beyond this group. You can find more information and help in the IRC channel #drupal-churches on irc.freenode.org and on the Geeks and God podcast website.

First Church Website

I've been noodling with Drupal for awhile. Here is my first serious effort at a church website http://goodwillbaptist.org; done for the church that my family now attends since we just moved to this area (Richmond, VA). It's done in Drupal 6 with views, cck, panels, gmap, lightbox2, views rotator, nice menu, etc and a custom theme built on Zen 960.
Comments and criticism?

Module for definitions

Right now we are developing a module to add definitions to a Drupal site: Through the backend you can add words and synonyms together with descriptions of the words.
It works as a input filter, the words from the list will get a span and a dotted border-bottom. When hovering over the word, de description appears in a tooltip (qtip).

When ready the module will be announced at http://communiceerjekerk.nl and also contributed at drupal.org.

There are kind of similar modules, but not with the exact desired functionality. AND not for Drupal 7. (this module will only be developed for D7)

Sermon Series

I already have my sermons on my Drupal site and have, to this point, preached mainly on the lectionary.

I'd like to create a simple way to display sermon series together, with a graphic and description at the top of the page, then the sermons in order below it. Some easy way to listen, like a playlist, would be nice, but not necessary.

Views feature

I was wondering is there a module or a feature in views where that user can edit a content in a view instead of going to find that content that is being used in view.

This amazing church site

I have to give all respect and admiration to the Developer(s) of this church site: http://www.ligonier.org/
You rock, you rule, you are absolutely awesome and I want to be like you when I grow up!

Now I hope you don't mind me getting some ideas from your site for a new church site I have started. And this goes out to anyone that has clues and ideas to share with me regarding this lovely church site as well : )

http://www.ligonier.org/

  1. What module did the slideshow?
  2. That amazing menu...oh my, what module is that? Looks like something "megamenu" would do. Can someone confirm?

Request for Assistance: Drupal Set-Up for Two Non-Profits

I am totally new to Drupal and unsure how to set Drupal up in a way that makes sense for multiple non-profit orgs helping the poor and marginalized here in Columbia, Mo. I would like to connect with someone who can help me build up a stable Web presence such that multiple people can contribute to a site but it retains its "non-Drupal appearance" (at least to some degree) and allows for a singular editorial voice.

Updating themes via update.module in D7

Just a warning, updating a theme via update.php will erase local.css for that theme. Apparently, this is not a bug... but also, there is no warning. Hopefully that will be rectified soon! Just wanted to let others know.

Acción Cristiana de Ensenada

Hola to all. My wife and I have created a website (only in spanish for now) for our church in México (Ensenada, Baja) using Drupal about 10 months ago, but have just found this group. The website is at www.accioncristiana.com.mx. We built it using Drupal 6. Its been on ongoing project for us (she is a graphic designer and I have experience with webdev) and been building it fairly often since we started. For now, we are using several very useful modules like cck, views, google maps embed, bible, embedded media field, etc.

Converting Wordpress themes to Drupal

I love Drupal, but some of its themes need work, but then again that has not been its focus. Its focus has been great code, which I love! There are wordpress sites I was thinking about converting, but wanted to know if someone else has already done them. Here they are: LightWord, Mystique, Easel, Sliding Door, Station, Antisnews, StudioPress, Glossy Stylo, MT dark

Does your church pay you?

Could everyone please list their church size, their position at the church, whether they volunteered or were recruited, and how much you are compensated.

I have been volunteering for 2 years now, but can not afford (literally) to simply volunteer anymore. My other work has not been very profitable this year and I need money to pay the bills! Trying to figure out how much I'm worth, how much I can ask for.

Website Central City Church

We launched the website for a dutch church in Utrecht: Central City Church.
Build from scratch with the Fusion basetheme.
Modules used: Context, Data, SWF Tools, Colorbox, Mailchimp and a lot of others.

The church has also an intranet, OpenAttrium.

It is a missionary website, the text is very understandable for none-christians and people outside the church.

New Church Site

Hi All,

Haven't been very active lately. Too busy with my "day job". But thought I would share that my church just launched a new site on Drupal 6. Check out Church of the Redeemer - Chestnut Hill, MA (Nov 2010 | D6). I also added it to the Churches tab.

The site was done by Theory One Design.

Prayer Journal?

I'm looking for a way to allow people to keep a simple prayer journal, to add items, then check them off, or change the status from "Concerns" to "Answered" or the like. This would be mostly private, although being able to make concerns public so they show up in a section of everyone else's concerns would be helpful, or even better, "public" vs. "public to members only".

Thoughts?
