About Greater Los Angeles Drupal (GLAD)
Greater Los Angeles Drupal (GLAD) is the umbrella group for most of the Drupal activity in the Greater Los Angeles Area.
With several weekly and monthly events, the Greater Los Angeles Area is one the most active areas for Drupal in the world. We've been bringing more Drupal to more people since 2010, and have as many as 10 meetups and other events dedicated to Drupal topics each and every month.
Our members and organizers have produced hundreds of Drupal events, including job fairs, meetups and workshops, conferences, paid trainings, coworking days, study group sessions, movie outings, FREE tutoring sessions from Drupal professionals, and website barnraisings to benefit non-profits and members of our community.
The Greater Los Angeles Drupal leadership team endeavors to actively empower and support volunteers and attendees in the Greater Los Angeles Area, and to provide resources (venues, guidance, equipment, raffle prizes, etc.) and an open governance model with consistency, transparency and accountability.

What's different about this group? (?)
In addition to our unique open governance model, GLAD has a different geographic focus than other regional groups. Formerly named Downtown Los Angeles Drupal, we've been meeting regularly in and around Downtown Los Angeles, California, since early 2010.
GLAD organizers lead a large number of events in the Greater Los Angeles Area, including Downtown Los Angeles, Koreatown, Culver City, Santa Monica, Pasadena, the San Fernando Valley, Orange County, Riverside and Ventura.

Proposed Bullet Points: Why Drupal : for SCALE and/or product managers chat
This is to continue the discussion we had at the holiday party: please add your reasons as to why Drupal.
- Drupal is extensible, both in site size and complexity.
- Drupal relies on a highly modular reusable code base. It does not lock in monolithic purpose developed code blobs in order to drive your feature set.

Read morePicture Carousel Problem
I'm stumped trying to put our TimeBank event pictures into a picture carousel on our welcome page.
I found that Rotor Banner allows for multiple images and/or ad text to be displayed one at a time in a single window (block) and you can apply different transition effects and timings to the rotating displays. I downloaded and installed the Drupal Rotor Banner module (6.x-2.8) and its dependent modules.

Our San Gabriel Valley meetup coincides with the Holidays in both November & December. So instead of taking you away from your families, we're going to have some fun instead. Get ready to get geek on with your Hobbit feet! That's right, we'll be having a Drupal After Dark to go watch the midnight showing of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey!
We'll first be joining our friends at the San Gabriel Valley Linux User Group for their monthly meeting. The December topic is on Puppet/Chef. Their meetup starts at 7pm @CalTech. Afterwards, we go to a good local eatery with pretty good Mediterranean food at Burger Continental. After that, we'll head over to the Arclight in Pasadena & get in line for the movie.
Happy Holidays everyone & we hope you can join us for the movie (or maybe some Puppet AND Hobbits)!

The general Downtown Los Angeles Drupal meetup is now on the 1st Tuesday of each month! We're meeting on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at Sensis Agency in Downtown Los Angeles. Those interested in attending this meetup remotely are welcome to join us via WebEx.
At this meetup, we're having our usual news and announcements, raffle prizes, lightning talks (which are short, bite-sized presentations) and featured presentations. We're also having a 1-hour DrupalCamp Planning Meeting.
Powering SDG&E (San Diego Gas & Electric) with Drupal
San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) is sending Matt Grill and Dan Montgomery from their IT Department to talk to us about their use of Drupal. Sensis Agency, our host for this meetup and a full service cross-cultural ad agency with digital at its core, produced a re-branding and re-launch of the SDG&E website last year on Drupal 7.
Since the launch, the IT Department at SDG&E has started to implement responsive design elements into their site. Matt and Dan will be telling us about Drupal as an enterprise-level solution and their work to continue to modify their website over the past year.
DrupalCamp Planning Meeting
We're planning a new DrupalCamp at the University of Southern California (USC) in 2013, tentatively named GLADCamp (Greater Los Angeles Area Drupal Camp). At this meetup, we'll be devoting an hour to growing our team of organizers and discussing the following:
- Findings from our DrupalCamp Site Visit to USC
- Identifying successes and challenges from Drupal Design Camp LA, the last camp we organized in October, 2012
- Choosing the name, size and scope for the event, and begin booking the rooms
Looking for a "Guest Expert" for online study group
Our online study group, http://drupalistasgroup.com, meets via Skype for 1 hr on Monday nights. We concept a module & then create it. Each week we add to the complexity of the module. Then we go forth and create! When we meet again on the next Monday we share code and process. It has been quite the enlightening process!!
