Greater Los Angeles Drupal (GLAD)

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

About Greater Los Angeles Drupal (GLAD)

Greater Los Angeles Drupal Greater Los Angeles Drupal (GLAD) is the umbrella group for most of the Drupal activity in the Greater Los Angeles Area.

With several weekly and monthly events, the Greater Los Angeles Area is one the most active areas for Drupal in the world. We've been bringing more Drupal to more people since 2010, and have as many as 10 meetups and other events dedicated to Drupal topics each and every month.

Our members and organizers have produced hundreds of Drupal events, including job fairs, meetups and workshops, conferences, paid trainings, coworking days, study group sessions, movie outings, FREE tutoring sessions from Drupal professionals, and website barnraisings to benefit non-profits and members of our community.

The Greater Los Angeles Drupal leadership team endeavors to actively empower and support volunteers and attendees in the Greater Los Angeles Area, and to provide resources (venues, guidance, equipment, raffle prizes, etc.) and an open governance model with consistency, transparency and accountability.

What's different about this group? (?)

In addition to our unique open governance model, GLAD has a different geographic focus than other regional groups. Formerly named Downtown Los Angeles Drupal, we've been meeting regularly in and around Downtown Los Angeles, California, since early 2010.

GLAD organizers lead a large number of events in the Greater Los Angeles Area, including Downtown Los Angeles, Koreatown, Culver City, Santa Monica, Pasadena, the San Fernando Valley, Orange County, Riverside and Ventura.

Increasing remote participation at the monthly High Performance Drupal meetups

Hi, fellow performance nuts. We're planning the next High Performance Drupal meetup in Los Angeles, California, and I'd like to coordinate with everyone here in the larger group to see how we can boost our online attendance.

What would make this meetup more interesting and accessible? What's working for your user groups and other organizations with online tech events and webinars?

The highest number of remote attendees we've had so far is 7 when mikeytown2 presented on HTTPRL (and mikeytown2 himself presented remotely). Recently, that number of remote attendees has been hovering around 2.

This is pretty good attendance for a specialized topic such as Drupal high performance, but in comparison we've consistently had between 15-20 people from the Los Angeles area attend in person and I'm not sure how to cater more to those who'd like to attend (and present) remotely.

Possible problems ^

The reasons that I can think of that our remote attendance has been lower than expected are:

About Mentored Training

What's the difference between this mentored training and the 3-hour lunch-and-learn Introduction to Drupal Workshop that we're offering next door at the same time?

In short, the 3-hour introductory workshop is better suited toward business owners and project managers. This mentored training is geared for folks who are interested in diving deeper into Drupal's systems and APIs, module or theme development or using popular contributed modules (e.g. Views, Rules, Features, etc.) for site building.

For more information about the mentored training concept and how it works, please have a look at the buildamodule.com training page. Here's a summary from Chris at buildamodule.com:

How to keep views slideshow from switching when playing video?

I've created a views slideshow with photos and videos, but when I play the video, the slideshow switches to the next slide before the video gets a chance to finish. How do I keep the views slideshow from switching slides when a video is playing?

I tried to set the slideshow to "pause on click", as opposed to "pause on hover", but that doesn't seem to help.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
