Event Management Systems

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Welcome to the Drupal events working group. This group is for discussion of modules and code related to events, calenders, timezones, and related issues. This is NOT a group for posting about (real or virtual) meetups and similar "events".

Folks interested in this group may also be interested in the Conference Organizing Distribution group, an installation profile for conferences built in Drupal.

simplified event repeat for g.d.o

Meetup.com will do "event repeats" for people which is a great feature. The way the do it is that

  1. you opt into it and set the schedule on the original event
  2. right after that event passes they make a copy of that event and put it in the future based on your schedule

This is really simple, avoids a lot of the complexities of the current event repeat tool creating tons of events into the future, and it sends notifications in a more timely manner than the current event repeat tool might.

Anyone know of something like this?

COD BOF (Conference Organizing Distribution)

COD stands for Conference Organizing Distribution and the goal of the project is to facilitate coordination of and participation in conferences via the conference website. COD can improve the efficiency of setting up a powerful website for both Drupal and non-Drupal conferences and events and provide value to non-developers and developers alike.

Let's get together to discuss COD and potentially work on some patches!
See the COD Roadmap.

Great Examples of Drupal Calendar/Event Implementations

I want examples of great looking & great functioning calendars. I've been asking on Twitter but haven't had any responses.

What calendars are there out there that people are really proud of? What's new, different, innovative or even just simply beautiful in this area?

Can we have some examples of different ways to implement calendaring systems and the advantages/disadvantages of them?

At this point I want to point out some possible options for displaying calendar information.

Books that talk about building event management systems in Drupal

I'm a newbee to Drupal, currently working on developing an event management system that would act as a platform for pitching early stage entrepreneurial ideas. This is more of a business event where you have participants in the form of Entrepreneurs/Service Providers/Venture Capitalists.

Can some one recommend a good book that focuses on building event management system using Drupal?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Best practice: Eventcalendar with location guide with D6 2010

Hey there,

as I am planning to create a new Eventsite which features publishing/sharing event data, some location guide and the according search options (search by time/region/proximity etc) and I am still quite new to Drupal, I'd like to collect some input on the currently best ways to do.

What I understood so far:
- Prefer use of Date/Calendar module instead of Event module due to better CCK/Views integration and higher flexibility
- Use Location module for the venue date (together with gmap module) instead of Addresses and co

Plugin forms for signup module

I've been working on expanding the 'Name and phone number' form that signup module currently comes with.

The idea is that the form takes pane plugins -- the same sort of idea as Ubercart checkout panes. Modules provide plugin panes, and each signup-enabled node has settings to enable them and place them in order.

So far I've reimplemented the built-in form, and added support for core Profile module and webform.

Selling tickets based on a CCK date field

Hello folks,
I'm trying to work out a way to sell tickets to events in our calendar product. The idea would be that each event is also an ubercart product type. I'm using a cck date field to denote the event dates. Ideally we want to have this working so that a user could visit the event page, and purchase a ticket for a specific date as defined by this cck date field. The other caveat is that this needs to be automated, Requiring that a person enter in a new product for every date occurrence is just unfeasible in in this application.

Organizing evenents across timezones, adjusting user timezone

I am currently working on http://www.nobleprog.com site.
The idea is to make "time discovery" process as easy as possible. Usually we spend a lot of time trying to find suitable time for the trainer and the delegates. It is even more complicated if it is a distance course.
So, so far when a person books the course, they propose the time, then the time is accepted or adjusted by the trainer and then goes back to the client.

Of course each time is presented in "users timezone".
My question is:

Event registration requirements for Church Volunteers use-case: Signup, Webform or others?

Hi - here are some requirements for a Church volunteer event registration use-case. I posted this previously on the Churches groups...

I'm struggling about what modules to use for event volunteer registration for my church.. I'm down to the signup module http://drupal.org/project/signup and the webform module http://drupal.org/project/webform but I cant get all the functionality we need with just one of them.

Discussion from Drupalcon Paris

Use cases

  • Export data to Excel
  • Record data per event (do you need babysitting?)
  • Record data per user (profile?)
  • Allow sign-up with no email address
  • Allow reserve lists for over-subscribed events
  • Allow booker to amend profiles/details of all the attendees he/she signs up
  • Allow printable name badges (print from browser on standard labels, like avery 5395) and signup lists
  • Allow sign-up and user registration in one step with a checkbox (combine profile and sign-up forms)

signup

I've given signup module a quick spin.
My thoughts so far -- please add your own :)

  • allows anon signup. Yay! But requires email. Not so good, but can perhaps be worked on with the visitor API?
  • hardcoded name + phone field. Not everyone wants phone, people need other fields.
  • lots of other fields -- conferences need food preferences, partial day bookings, etc, etc. Have suggested using webform here
  • form data is stored serialized -- no good for Views integration.
  • no way to sign up many people at once, but there's an issue open for this.

Creating a new installation profile from the DrupalCampLA conference website

The team at This By Them worked with LA Drupal organizers to design and develop a tremendously useful conference website, and released it under the GPL (see case study). With the advent of modules such as Patterns and Features, we are now able to turn this site into customizable/configurable installation profile.

Implementation ideas

I think that there are several key elements to growing Drupal into a capable registration system:

  1. The holding space for the events related information
  2. The storage of data related to the event
  3. Tracking people related to the event
  4. Tracking attendance
  5. The registration process
  6. The process of setting up an event

Points 3 and 4 are interrelated - if you only track attendance, then point 3 is redundant. Point 3 applies when you track other relationships, for example, whether someone is a prospective attendee.
