Much like the drupal iUI, it might also be worthwhile to look at jQuery Mobile (http://jquerymobile.com/) for powering your mobile site as it looks quite feature rich.

Ethan Marcotte also wrote a guest chapter in Handcrafted CSS (more bulletproof web design) by Dan Cederholm -- the chapter by Ethan is called "the Fluid Grid" and clearly explains all the same concepts, including layout changes (aka responsive web). its a good book with lots of real world css best practices -- it came out a little more than a year ago and you can prob pick it up used cheap, or at the library.
